Weekly injuries, info and opinions from week 8
Already made a few comments in others threads that I will start with in here.

    Steelers

They have no linebackers to play against Ray Rice and emerging TE's Ed Dixon and Denny Pitta. I don't know how you can play Pitt in this situation.

LaMarr Woodley who has been playing all world pulled a hammy and will probably be out, James Farrior will misa at least a few more weeks with a bad calf, James Harrison has not been cleared to play with a broken orbital bone and backup Jason Worilds is still out.

That may have been OK against the New England who are more of a finesse attack but against Baltimore who will ram it down your throat until you choke, no healthy linebackers is a real bad thing.

I will take that 3.5 right now based on that information. You probably won't get that line after this hits the papers.

It will be 3 soon enough. The -3.5 is healthy plus money already.

Update - Woodley now confirmed out here:

    Colts

LT Quinn Ojinnaka is likely out this week on an already depleted O-line for the Colts. They play Atlanta this week at home whose D-line will be as healthy as it has been all year. Jonathon Babineaux and Jon Abraham have had an extra week to rest nagging injuries.

The Colts opened +8 and was quickly bet down to 7 by some very brave souls. I was not among them nor am I inclined to be after watching a good piece of yesterdays debacle. Neither the Colts or Tennessee will be inclined to see any of my money for a while.

      Falcons

Pro Bowl FB Ovie Mughelli was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. He is a big part of the goal line offense as a blocker or a pass option and will be missed. He is a great blocker and is paramount to the success of Michael Turner. Jason Snelling will step in this week and the Falcons have signed a replacement.

I am not sure you can factor that in your handicapping against the Colts this week as most teams are just shredding the Colts through the air but keep an eye on this moving forward.

        Raiders

Coach Hugh Jackson will not comment on any injuries until tomorrow. I am keeping a close eye on the status of RB Darrin McFadden as it was reported he was on crutches and in a walking boot well into the bye week.

The health of two starting CB's Chris Johnson and Chimdi Chekwa is also a major concern and the Raider's have signed Lito Shepherd who was with them at the end of training camp. They are saying he is up to speed and can go right away if needed.

MLB Rolando McClain was also in a boot during bye week.

They are also reporting that Carson Palmer has spent the bye working with his recieving corps and is now up to full speed. They are also looking at signing T.J. Houshmandzadeh and are working him out today. He worked out in the offseason with Carson Palmer and played with him for years in Cincinnati.

nice thread. glad i encountered it. I like baltimore on the ML this week..hoping the current +155 will rise though.
also taking a look at Giants ML +375. Its not often we get the Giants at + money, let alone better than 3 to 1, so its worth a small play imo.

Good luck and thanks for the info!

I will have a few more today. I usually update after Wednesday and Friday practices or as I find anything worthy of note. Check back periodically through the week.

                Giants

WR Hakeem Nicks is a good bet to miss against New England this coming Sunday. He has not been officially ruled out but doubts he can go. That leaves Victor Cruz and Mario Manningham with the likely probability that Ramses Barden will be activated off of PUP. Nicks is the only one out of the group that warrants safety coverage. Also RB Ahmad Bradshaw's foot is acting up again, he has had several stress fractures in the past.

C David Bass has had to have an MRI on his severely swollen right knee that he injured Sunday. His status is definitely worth monitoring. Injuries to starting centers are usually under the radar and not given enough respect when handicapping offensive potential for the upcoming week.

It sounds as if the Giants may not be with a full quota of offensive players this week. +9 seems to be a common number here. I am wondering how popular the Pats will be at the window this week.

                    Skins

TE Fred Davis who is by far the most consistent player on the offensive side of the ball for the Skins suffered a Grade 1 ankle sprain on Sunday. If he misses that would be the safety valve and check down option gone for Beck.

That O-Line is as bad as it gets right now, Buffalo manhandled them and they are not a good defense. Look for more of the same for the Skins unless Trent Williams gets back in. Their are players out of position on every spot on that line right now. Williams ankle is said to be improving but it is too early to rule on him. I will definitely stay on top of that one for us.

On a side note. Look for some regression from the Bills D. They are nowhere near as good as they looked on Sunday. The Skins are just that bad behind Beck and with no blocking on either pass or run plays.

                      Browns

RB Monterio Hardesty is now done for a while with a partially torn calf muscle. It is suffiecient to say that the Browns now have less than no running game. Before this injury they did not have one. The offence will now feature a QB who does not throw the ball downfield at all, with the lone deep threat being a KR who has little interest in playing on offence.

Starting WS LB Chris Gocong left the game and did not return with a shoulder injury. It is his second injury to the same shoulder this year. Gocong is also a key special teams player.

                        Texans

The Texan defence has lost another LB. Darryl Sharpton was a key member of the linebacker rotation at both inside spots but is lost for the year with a torn quad tendon. He shared reps at both spots and had been playing very well.

The Texans have now lost two of their top 5 LB's with Brooks Reed still learning Mario Williams spot. Reed is playing well but again is still learning.

None of this probably matters this week with the Browns on deck but keep this in mind past that point.

No they were not OK after Woodley left the game, they were down to one healthy regular at linebacker. Woodley played the bulk of the first three quarters and had 2 sacks. During their 2 4th quarter drives Patriots the rushed twice and passed the other 13 times. In their final drive they did not rush at all. All the linebackers were required to do were hold their gaps and passing lanes. New England was not dealing from a position where they could expose the weakness by that point and had not game planned nor were in a position to start running the ball against a depleted 3/4. Which had become more of a 4/2 with 5 DB's by then.

Now if you think the Ravens game plan is going to be an air attack featuring 90% dropbacks then you should probably play Pittsburgh......... OK

Now judging from the intelligence of your post I am not sure you watch much football but let me help you out a bit. I may have stumped you with my explanation. Cause I am here to help. You are clearly the clueless one here.

The Ravens may not pass on every down. Hell they might not even pass on half there plays.

Don't compare one game featuring a finesse offense to another where the ram it down your throat style is more apt to be featured.

                            OK

The line has dropped to 3 as I mentioned it would earlier. Let me know why you think that happened.

                            OK

                              Seahawks

DE Chris Clemons who is probably the most consistent pass rush end for Seattle injured his knee in the first quarter against Cincinnati on Sunday are is doubtful at this point.

I do not like the Seahawks chances at all in Dallas and I think the -11.5 points is a short line. The inexperience of the Seattle secondary may be exposed here. I like Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas at the saftey positions but the Seahawks are going to badly miss Truffant and Thurmond at the CB position this week. Although the Seattle D-line has been good against the rush so far I think Chancellor is going to have to pay a lot of attention to Demarco Murray and may leave those corners without help against Austin and Dez at times.

Pits shut down Tom Brady I don't see them having a problem shuting down Flacco. Baltimore has one thing going for them and thats their defense.
I think the line droped to 3 to keep the sides balanced.

I don't think you are getting the point there but good luck with your play. The Steelers are out of starting linebackers. As I mentioned in my first post, who is going to stop Ray Rice and the active TE's. Flacco is not going to beat anyone on his own and that is not the concern here.

You obviously know very little about key numbers and line movement. If you think a move from -3.5 to 3 is to balance a side you should probably not be wagering at all. There is plenty of information in this thread to show you the linesmakers considered the -3.5 a week position and they have adjusted. A good line can be balanced on the vig. A weak number must be adjusted especially when it is on or off a key number.

                                  Enjoy the game.

Apparently some guy named Chris Oingoboingo will start this weekend with Joe Cribbs slated to take a few handoffs. So Cribbs is going to be the running back and deep threat. They should give him reps at QB where he would also be an instant upgrade.

Does anyone have the cones to bet the Browns this week?? No wonder they posted an insignificant # on this one.

McFadden left practice today on crutches and in a walking boot. They have not confirmed him out yet but they are saying internally it looks like week 10 for him at the earliest.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh did sign and will be active.

Kicker Dave Rayner who signed and played last week for Sebastian Janikowski is on speed dial. Janikowski was unable to practice yesterday. Rayner has no where near the range as S.J who will have no where near his normal range if he is a go.

Rolando McClain did not practice again. This is important as the MLB will be used to shadow Tebow and his mad dashes out of the pocket.

I am starting to get an appetite for Denver plus the points here. I know Carson worked out with the WR's during the bye but to expect him up to speed with a compromised running game, (Bush will start and Taiwan Jones will play) may not be worth the 9 they are getting.
