So then if winless Game 4+ dogs were 300-0 ATS, would that be meaning less because every team is "different".

And of course, that is precisely the point. One of them anyway. Grab a big enough sample size from the past and you get a pretty good look at lots and lots of different teams. The average behavior is worth *something*, even if you choose to ignore it in a specific case.

The other point: the betting public hates these teams. Generally they have to pay an add'l small handicap to fade these losers. I don't know about you, but I like getting extra points. But hey, that's just me.
