    WEEK ONE:

SELECTION #1: Arizona (-6.5) -110 over Carolina... Risk $550 to win $500...Carolina has a notoriously tough time covering ATS on the road (0-6 L6 as a road dog when the line is 7 pts, or less). Throw in a rookie QB and rookie coach playing in hostile territory, I like the Cards to cruise relatively easily in this one.

    Arizona 34 Carolina 17 F

SELECTION #2: Washington (+3) -120 over NY Giants...Risk $480 to win $400...So Eli Manning thinks he's in the same class of football as Tom Brady? He sure didn't show it in the pre-season. I will be generous and put him in the same category of Joe Flacco - above average with flashes of brilliance. Wrong team favored here, in my opinion. Key injuries on D for the G-Men will allow the home team to slip by as long as Rex Grossman the game manager shows up and not his evil twin brother Rex Grossman the turnover machine.

    Washington 21 New York Giants 17 F

SELECTION #3: Detroit (+1.5) -110 over Tampa Bay...Risk $330 to win $300...What, what???Am I really picking THE LIONSto open the season on the road in the win column? With a healthy Stafford and Best, and a D that has been getting better every year, this Lion team might be Wild Card-bound. Oh, you like trends? TB is 3-11 L14 Home ATS.

    Detroit 24 Tampa Bay 21 F

SELECTION #4: New England/Miami (O 45.5)...Risk $330 to win $300... Key trends: NEW ENGLAND: 12-2 Over as favorite while MIAMI: 7-0 Over at home 1st half of season. Brady and Bellichick look to get off on the right foot. Miami is the perfect opponent to do so.

    New England 27 Miami 20 F

SELECTION #5: San Diego (-9) EV over Minnesota... Risk $200 to win $200...I can't see McNabb taking these guys back on the road vs. a good SD D if they get down big early, which they will. Look for Rivers to Gates ALL DAY. Key trends: MINNESOTA: 1-9 ATS as an underdog. SAN DIEGO: 18-6 ATS as a home favorite of 7.5 to 10 points.

    San Diego 31 Minnesota 20 F
