    Sitting Out the Super Bowl?
Being that this is the NFL handicapping forum it is great to see so many people trying to figure out how to bet on the Super Bowl.

    But ask yourself this question:

Do you have to make a bet just because it is the Super Bowl?

I don't see an edge for either team that I feel is worth betting on. I had a good regular season and doubled my bankroll. I bet on the championship games last weekend and made a few extra dollars on top of that.

So this year, I figure why piss away any of my winnings on a coin toss game at best? Who cares if it is the Super Bowl. I am not a big fan of either team.

The best way to end the season for me will be to take what I got and be happy with it. Sometimes it takes a bigger man to not bet than it does to throw a big wad of cash on the table with crappy odds.

That betting strategy may not be for everyone. But if you have won thus far for the season, it would be OK to keep it and just enjoy the game. What better way to celebrate a winning season than to keep it all.

That will be your choice. I am just bringing up one option for playing the game that many should consider and few do.

To answer your first question, Yes. Yes, I must absolutely place a bet on this game.

I made a thread about good rules to use when handicapping. You are talking about this following rule.

"#1. Bet because you can win. Never bet for the action or just because it's your favorite team. Be selective. Pick your spots and wait for the right opportunity."

Yeah you have to gamble on it. Whether it be straight up or boxes.

Reminds me of what I heard once. "He will gamble on anything..he'll see two ants racing up the wall and bet you which one will make it to the ceiling first." Lol

I agree in principle - it's always good this time of year to remember that you don't HAVE to bet (or bet big) just because it's the superbowl. I remember this topic coming up during the NCAAF National Championship game also. That being said, the last few weeks of the NFL and the playoffs have been very good to my bankroll, so I will probably put a small 1-2 unit bet on the big game just to make watching it a little more exciting - if you're not a fan of either team, it at least gives you something to root for!

That's the way I like to gamble. Wait til the odds are so far in your favor that it would be tough to lose. I agree with you, a coin flip is not worth a gamble here. Maybe a small blind bet here would be okay, too.

Completely agree with your post..i had a good late season run and a perfect championship weekend..not going to ruin it if I don't like what I see..most times I'll just do a live bet or something if I really want to make a play..may be what I end up doing

Superbowls are difficult to cap. Teams 'go for it' and do the unexpected much more, creating more scoring or more blunders. Last year's total was a cinch to 'under' and it hit only just after a pretty quiet start to the game.
This game definitly has good value in taking Pitts + the points, but it certainly isn't enough for me to take seriously. Especially with the status of 2 key players in question of being ready to go for the Steelers. It does have an impact, because there were issues with the snaps of the ball after Pouncey left the ballgame.

Right now I'm laying off the game. I'm eyeballing the 'over', but I want to see where the line moves as the game approaches.
But yes, it's easy to take weeks off in the post season when you're not finding a solid play. I just value shopped in the playoffs and got mauled by it... All plays I'd make in the regular season, but never in the playoffs. I broke my own rule just to get action. It's definitly smart to lay off when you're uncertain you don't have the best situation to get your money in.

Wait until just before the game when all the props are available. I personally want to see what the o/u is for redman's yardage in the game. i think pitt will try and run the ball all night and mendenhall may be who gb def targets to stop, leaving redman to put up 50 or so. My guess is the line would be redman rushyrds o/u 26.5 or rush/rec yrds o/u 35.5

Rodgers can finally put all end to any doubters out there (if there are any left) who thought it was dumb for GB to let Favre go and commit to him. Like that motivation.

i forget who said it, but not placing a bet on the super bowl is like not going to church on christmas or easter. if you do it at all you're definitely going to do it there

There's been a couple of years where I didn't bet the SB. I am going to wait and look at some props, just for a bit of action.
