Steelers' Harrison arrested on assault charges
    Class act.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison was charged Saturday with slapping his girlfriend across the face and breaking her cell phone in half.

Harrison of Franklin Park is accused of arguing with Beth Tibbott, 29, at her Sonie Drive, Ohio Township, home at 12:55 p.m., according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Ohio Township police to support the charges.

Attempts to reach the Steelers and Harrison were unsuccessful last night.

The couple argued and Tibbott locked herself in the bedroom, the affidavit stated. She was attempting to call 911 when Harrison broke through the door, took her phone, slapped her in the face and knocked off her glasses. Police said she had red marks on her left cheek. Tibbott told police she was afraid of Harrison, the affidavit said.

Steelers have to beat on women since they can't beat anyone else.

At the risk of appearing to defend an abusive guy, which I'm not, let's not jump the gun in assuming that he fits the profile of another NFL woman beater.

Just going by the print, it looks to me like she was calling 911 before he'd done anything... (other than argue).

Obviously he should have just walked away, instead of breaking through the door (was it locked, or is that a spectacular term for opening a door during a dispute?). Having not done the wise thing, I can understand why anyone, but especially a public figure would get angry about a girlfriend calling 911.

Sounds to me like he took out his anger on the phone (suggesting that indeed the call was the main focus of his anger!), but was stupid enough to slap her across the face. If that is indeed what happened (just as likely he ripped her phone from her -precisely because he didn't want a public story like this - which could easily have produced the results ascribed to the 'assault';' upon closer reading, there doesn't appear to have been an assault. Instead he is accused of 'arguing'... ). The detail about knocking her glasses off and leaving red marks on her face kind of makes me suspicious that they're trying to blow this up. (no black eyes, no swollen lips, or any other gory detail that would make me want to vomit).

Let me be clear. I can't stand woman beaters. But what about women that try to make someone look like that? You know the media is going to run with it regardless of what happened.

That's a good observation, the article does lead one to wonder what (if any) altercation transpired prior to locking herself in the bathroom to call 911. From what we know, I'd have to guess that it's an abusive relationship and that's why she'd be that scared as to "lock herself in the bathroom". I'll give her the benefit of the doubt until I hear his story but I wish the article was a little more concise.

Steelers' Harrison keeps quiet about arrest

Steelers linebacker James Harrison didn't want to talk Sunday about his arrest a day earlier on simple assault and criminal mischief charges.

"I have no comment on that," Harrison said at his Franklin Park home.

Harrison, 29, is accused of slapping Beth Tibbott, 29, at her Ohio Township home on Saturday, according to a police affidavit. Tibbott told police that she and Harrison were arguing when she locked herself in her bedroom and tried to call 911. Harrison broke through the door, snapped her cell phone in half and then slapped her across the face hard enough to knock off her glasses, according to the affidavit.

Harrison's agents had no comment yesterday, said John Nubani, president of Sports Management and Marketing Inc.
