Rivers for NFL MVP

I've been kinda touting this guy for MVP all year, as a longshot, but he really deserves it. With all of the injuries and drama coming out of SD, all he does is hold the team together and keep them in contention. Last week I saw the line at Rivers +700. Right now, I think that would be great value. Is Rivers a better candidate than Vick, Brees, Brady & Peyton?

If he shows up big against the Colts next week and leads the Chargers to victory, that would bode well for him.

I think he is the head runner for it. He doesn't lose a step with all his targets going down. He gets VJAX and Gates back next week. Watch out, his numbers should increase. Sorry Marino, your record is toast.

Sometimes these passing yards get a little jacked up because of a crap run game, or their losing.

Also, remember that crap game against the Rams.

Oh yeah, and he had a lot of garbage time to chuck the ball when he was in Seattle.

Arrowhead in the rain, and he still was 2 yards shy of 300 with 2 TD's no INT's. KC only won because of two big home run plays. Rivers played well. What did Cassel do? 68 yards passing. LOL!

I guess he did kinda stink it up against the Rams. He had 249, 1 and 1. Some QB's would love to get that. LOL!

Running backs MVP's gain the most from garbage time, because they get the ball most of the time to run the clock.


Rivers then Vick a close second.

The Eagles can win without Vick. The Chargers would have no shot whatsoever without Rivers. Other than a select few, Philip Rivers means more to his team than any other player in the NFL. Because Philip has better stats than Peyton, and because he's doing it with no names, he deserves to be the MVP.

He deserves it right now even over Vick. One thing you can count on for sure is the MVP is going to a QB this season.

Rivers has a good shot at it and with the return of Jackson next week it only looks to be getting better for him. However, I just don't think he'll be able to keep putting up these same numbers as he faces tougher opponents over the next week.

I think it depends if the Chargers make the playoffs (which is very likely now). Even if he breaks the record, I doubt they give it to him if they miss the post-season. Remember last year Chris Johnson got 2000 yards rushing and broke Marshall Faulk's all time yards from scrimmage record, Titans missed the playoffs and he didn't receive a single MVP vote.

In 2008, Brees got within 16 yards of Marino's record. Saints missed the playoffs and he again didn't get a single vote. This is how the votes were cast that year:
Peyton Manning: 32
Chad Pennington: 4
Michael Turner: 4
Philip Rivers: 2
Chris Johnson: 1
Kurt Warner: 1

All players were on playoff teams. If he had thrown those extra 16 yards, would it have made a difference??
