Is M Vick playing vs. Indy?
He'll be able and run wild against the Colt team.

Still think Indy can keep it close and win outright though.

Vick is starting and fully participated in practice today.. The General, do you think the Eagles are a strong bet with him? I still lean towards the Colts..

I'd only comment that I will not bet on Indy in this match-up.

              Good luck, Men

This game is tough. Will probably stay away. Will be a great game to watch though.

Over or tease it no play on sides .. Andy Reid has never lost off a bye, 11-0 and 9-2 ats but never has played peyton .. Eagles are hard to cap with the constant qb changes but vick will open up everything esp Mccoy running the ball ... Colts have dropped 44,35,45 on Eagles the last three times played .. 27-23/27-24 .. 28-27 type game .. I would be very surprised if this game doesnt total 50

it is not a good spot for the colts, bottom line. not sure it could be worse playing outdoors, off a monday night win where the texans looked like shit, and the eagles off a bye. make one note here: freeney will not do the same to vick as he did to matt blob, vick will take off and get positive yards. you cannot shut bull rush vick like you did blob without contain.

First of all, you have to bet on Peyton Manning getting points. Since 2003, Manning is 12-3 against the spread as an underdog, which excludes those bogus Week 16 and 17 tilts where he plays just a series or two. His three spread losses? Two were to New England when Bill Belichick used to own him. The other was at undefeated Tennessee on a Monday night where he was not 100 percent coming off knee surgery.

Second, Andy Reid sucks against AFC opponents. Any Eagles fan can attest to this. Big Red blows hard against the other conference.

Now, you may notice that Reid has an unbelievable spread record (9-2) coming off a bye. This intimidated me until I did some research. Here are the teams Reid has battled with a week off:

2009 - Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs won four games last year.

2008 - Atlanta Falcons: The Eagles beat this spread by four points. Matt Ryan was making his seventh career start, so he was still figuring things out. Ryan, by the way, struggled yet again at Philly this year, so maybe the Eagles just have his number.

2007 - New York Jets: The Jets won four games that year.

2006 - Washington Redskins: The Redskins won five games that year.

2005 - San Diego Chargers: Finally, an elite opponent! Oh wait, the Eagles didn't cover the spread in this game.

2004 - Carolina Panthers: This was Carolina's post-Super Bowl year when Steve Smith was hurt. The Panthers began the season 1-7.

2003 - Buffalo Bills: The Bills won six games that year.

2002 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Finally, another elite opponent. The Eagles covered this spread, but I remember this game vividly. The Buccaneers had the lead until Warren Sapp was poked in the eye and had to leave the field. On the very next play, Donovan McNabb threw a long touchdown pass. In the second half, Brad Johnson was knocked out of the game with an injury.

2001 - New York Giants: The Giants won seven games that year.

2000 - Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals won four games that year.

1999 - St. Louis Rams: The Super Bowl champion Rams sat their starters in this Week 17 matchup (this was back when byes could occur throughout the season.)

So there you have it. The Eagles have covered the spread against ONE elite team off the bye, and that squad (Tampa) had its quarterback and best defensive player knocked out of the game.

Vick matches up really really well against the Indy D who relies on a rush-four pass rush much in the same way as Detroit (Or Tennessee, who Vick would have been better against than Kolb). He is just too much faster than those linemen, and can make even make athletic DEs like Vandenbosch just look silly sometimes.

The trouble with dissecting the Andy Reid bye week stats like that is that in several of those years the Eagles were not a good team either and still covered. Reid is a ponderous thinker, whose greatest weakness is clock management and greatest strength is long term player management/drafting. It makes sense for him to be brilliant in the week after a bye.
Walter forgot... when you're desperate's when you got no choice.

Yeah.....Gonzalez' knee is fvcked again, and may be out for the year; Collie will likely start as he just completed his second full practice on Friday.

In regards to a defense solely relying on its front four (which Larry Coyer does not, contrary to common thought), then Freeney, Mathis, Foster, Hughes, and bits of Phil Wheeler would be the cast to field against Vick. Besides, the stance that this facet is largely conducive to Philly's chances is too broad as this is simply not the case in the NFL anymore; Vick is not overhauling a team's win probability based on how much faster he is than a front-7 defender.

Now, I think LeSean McCoy is going to have a great game in this spot with Jason Peters back, and that Dimitri Patterson is (as most do) going to have his hands full with Reggie Wayne, as I have not seen Asante Samuel line up at right corner this season.

I'm playing the over at 46.5 as it stands right now.

I haven't seen anyone comment on here about Vick not running as much. Psychologically, he knows he has to be more careful with his body to stay healthy. Does this mean less running? I think it will, as he has to know he is getting older which means being more cautious.
