This team is so disparate for a spark. As a 49ers fan I want to have hope that Troy Smith turns to the second coming of Steve Mcnair but it ain't going to happen. Singletary your fired.

If you said that we were getting these 3 QB's out of college. I'd say we have at least 2 Hall Of Framers.
Alex Smith 2004 @ Uath Passing 214 317 67.5% YDS 2,952 TD 32 INT 4 Rushing 135 YDS 631 TD 10
David Carr 2001 @ Fresno St Passing 343 532 64.5% YDS 4,830 TD 46 INT 9 Rushing 92 YDS 74 TD 5
Troy Smith 2006 @ Ohio St Passing 203 311 65.3% YDS 2,542 TD 30 INT 6 Rushing 62 YDS 233 TD 1
Smith had a better year running the ball in 2005. Smith and Carr had great college stats to bad in doesn't translate to the NFL.

Troy Smith is a gamer. I would look for him to find success in San Fran.

On paper, that game could be a shootout. But remember the London time difference, and Wembley has short, slippery natural grass designed for soccer. This might be a good place to play the under.

Just another QB that Tressel doesn't prepare for the next level. Has he had any QBs do anything the NFL (and don't say Craig Krenzel, who embarrassed himself in Chicago.)

troy smith is not a great quarterback, kind of reminds me of a colt mccoy. He is a gamer, knows how to win. Don't know if that will translate into the nfl though

Troy smith can find success with the WR's that the miners have.
Trust me, he will only be an upgrade from Alex Smith.

I think Troy Smith does well Sunday and I don't like black qbs or Ohio State but his throwing motion and mechanics are solid... He buys time when he scrambles and is not the M. Vick type of qb.. When he rolls out he squares his shoulders and keeps the ball up better then most qb's.... even white ones...
I like SF -1

That's what they say about ALLLLLL Running quarterbacks and they all suck.
Do you know why Troy Smith is going to fail?
Because he's about 5'11 and can't throw the ball. Horrible combo. I can remember at the NFL combine a couple of years ago he was standing next to Jamarcus Russell... Jamarcus had about 6 inches and 80 pounds on him and more than give Jamarcus a boost in draft standing it just made Troy Smith's stock fall because it just showed you how much tinier he was.
What NFL player will he most resemble? Maybe a smaller version of Tavaras Jackson or Cleo Lemon but go ahead and bet on him because he's mobile.

There are 2 Quarterbacks 6 feet tall or shorter in the NFL. I know I know Troy Smith is listed as 6' but he's not, he's 5'11. Just like Vick is also 5'11... Drew Brees is 6' on the dot. Now what do these 3 guys have in common??? Nothing.
Brees is 6' but has success in the NFL because he's one of the top 3 guys at reading a defense. Troy Smith probably isn't even in the top 50 at reading a defense. You have to think how many 2nd and 3rd string guys can read a defense better than him?
Michael Vick is 5'11 and has success in the NFL because he's a wide receiver playing Quarterback and can scramble. Troy Smith doesn't have anywhere near that ability. Troy Smith started 2 games and played in 4 a couple years ago... He rushed for 54 yards... ( That's nothing) and he completed 52% of his passes. But you want him because he might rush for 20 yards in a game?
Mobility sounds great but how often does it ever work? People have said the same crap about Senecca Wallace for years. How's he doing? Does any team want him to start for them? How about Dennis Dixon? The 49ers aren't even close to the Steelers in coaching. It boggles my mind how people still think that having a mobile quarterback is like some secret unfair advantage. The best QB's slide in the pocket from time to time but don't even really think about taking off. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees... You still want a scrambler? I'll take the 300 yard passer with 0 rushing yards, you can take the 140 yard scrambler that rushes for 20 yards any day of the week.

I hope T. Smith pulls SF out of this hole. Baltimore let him go once Bulger was settled in. Any change in SF is for the best at this point.

I like this move for SF. I hear the London soccer fields are built for foot speed. This should favor a fleet footed QB.

There is a reason why Smith has bounced around the league...pick Denver.
