New England is coming off a bye this week and historically they play very well. Tom Brady his 7-1 straight up after bye weeks not to mention a whopping 57-10 at Gillette Stadium straight up and 36-27-4 ATS. In home games with the Patriots favored by 4 or more Tom Brady is 11-4-2 ATS. If all this wasn't enough the Patriots got stomped by Baltimore last year in New England to end their season. Considering this is a huge revenge game and Belichick and Brady have two weeks to prepare, I will lay the 2.5 against Baltimore even without Moss. Thoughts?

#2I'd discount the historical stats...
This Patriots defense isn't even as close to the one you are comparing it too...
No Richard Seymour
No Ty Warren
No Asante Samuel
No Mike Vrabel
No Teddy Brusci
No Randal Gay
The offense has also changed. You have a couple good slot guys and now an injury prone, not yet ready Deion Branch? Kevin Faulk will be out... I don't like the Pats running game, and the guys have have are more "over the middle" WR's, who is a threat on the outside?
Baltimore O-Line should run them over AGAIN, and take away Welker. If you take away Welker, hernandez has to beat you himself.
I think the Pats offense made them good enough to still win, but have you seen the Pats in the 2nd half of games? They don't look the same. I think they'd still be a good 10-6 maybe 11-5 type team with Moss but I don't know about this team. That defense looks soft, and their offense has a huge hole on the outside... and I'm not impressed with their run game.Comment -

#6He hit it on the head... let me also add, without moss, welker is not gonna have alot of catches because you don't have the safety sitting back over the top on moss' side. Welker will be catching alot more wr screens because let's be honest moss' presence alone made life easier for welker. Tates gonna get more looks and forget the running game and catches over the middle with the safety sitting in the box. I see the ravens blitzing brady and knocking him on his ass. Defensively, in case you guys forgot the game against dolphins, the fins were running up and down the filed pretty decently until their special teams gave up so many points and henne's turnovers. If Rice is ready to go for the game, which i think he will be, i see Ravens beating patriots by about 9 points.Originally posted by C-Gold;685***3I'd discount the historical stats...

#7Pats are fine without Moss. It'll be an upgrade. Teasing the Ravens is the way I like this game. But Pats are on a nice number too.Comment -

#8Yeah you can look at stats from 10, 5, and 3 years ago all you want, but look at who'se going to be on the field... Randy Moss is maybe the best WR ever, and the best deep WR ever... Moss going deep pulling coverage, and Wes Welker is unguardable on the short stuff. You can't play him Man/Man with a LB, he will beat every single LB in the NFL, and he finds the holes in zones. But without Moss it changes the game.Originally posted by piecemakerHe hit it on the head... let me also add, without moss, welker is not gonna have alot of catches because you don't have the safety sitting back over the top on moss' side. The Patriots defense sucks. Ryan Fitspatrick put up 30 on them and everybody moves the ball on them. I'm no Flacco fan but the Ravens should put up their points. I don't see how this game will have a different result than the playoff game in Foxboro when the Patriots got licked.
You can say " Bellicheat" has 2 weeks to prep, but doesn't he need players too? The Patriots defense isn't even close to what it was... Ty Warren was a huge loss, especially with no Seymore...Comment -

#10Or you could take the Ravens TT over the number. At 5Dimes, Ravens are +1 and Total is 45, so you could take Ravens over 22 points if thats what it comes out to be. I would think they would put up more than that vs the Pats D

#11Pats got this. If you bet against Brady and Belichick at home after a bye your an idiot.

And Pats defense showed hugeee improvements last week against Miami(an offense very comparable to Ravens) I'm not going against that and giving belichick 2 weeks to prepare.Comment -

#16Agree with Pats winning, just waiting for the line to keep going down with everyone picking the Ravens, thats fine by me. We play better as the underdog.
The Ravens have not been good this year in turnovers, they have only caused 2-3 and have turned it over like 8 times right? Not sure on exact numbers but it isn't good. Patriots after a bye are good, Brady will be fine and spreading it around. We did beat them last year in the regular season, they will be extra motivated from that playoff loss as well and proving the doubters wrong. They have a chip on their shoulder.Comment -

#19You can discount historical stats all you want and say the team changed and the defense sucks, but look how much the team changed from 2001 to now. Every year the patriots win at home, but every year the roster changes. Last year they were 8-1 at home and guess what, there was no Richard Seymour, Asante Samuel, Mike Vrabel, Teddy Brusci, and Randal Gay. The only constants throughout all these years are Brady and Belicheck. The Patriots don't continually win year in and year out because they have a good defense or Randy Moss showed up for a couple of seasons. They win because of coaching and quarterback play both of which they still have. It is the same with all the great QBs. Look at Peyton Manning. Every year they win 12 games and it's not because of the defense and Marvin Harrison it's because Peyton knows how to win (in the regular season). The historical stats just go to show you it doesn't matter who the Pats have on the squad, they always win at home.Comment -

#20did anyone see what Rice did to that defense last year in the playoffs? The Patriots got younger on that side of the ball, not necessarily better.Comment
