I dont see the jets winning this. But I am going to watch this line for awhile. Its a bit strange.

Trap is set. But I will stupidly bite and take the pats. My only guess is the want the public to be all over this one, and the choice will be to hard for joe armchair to decide on.

You have to go Patriots here. It's not a trap when the Jets are missing Jenkins, Pace and Santonio Holmes. That and the Jets have been calling out the Patriots non stop since Rex came to town, so New England has something to prove each time they play since that week 2 loss.
Patriots drafted two TE's to match up perfectly against the Jets. Revis will battle Moss man to man, but who will cover Welker, Gronkowski, Tate and Hernandez?

This line will probably go up to 3-4 by game time. I'm locking it in now at 1.5

This is going to be a bloodbath. Rex can blitz all day long while Brady is dumping it all over the place for good yardage. If you live by the blitz, you can die by it just as easily. Too many weapons for Brady this year and Sanchez just flat out sucks. Don't over think this, NE is going to blow this Team out, -1.5 is a gift. I'd have no problem laying 10

Jets defense gave Brady serious problems in NY last yr, but that was w/o Welker. I would expect to see another low scoring game here and would not take Pats as fav, but if you want them I would hit now. Even with how terrible the Jets offense looked last night, they lost by 1 and the Rvens got that favorable roughing the kicker penalty which led to TD. That game could have easily ended with Ravens not finding endzone and I think Ravens offense is going to be very strong this yr.
S Green needs to get it together this week and LT looked strong. Sanchez was terrible, but Ravens better than Pats imo.

Correct, Brady didn't have Welker last year and that was a big loss for him in that game. Now, Welker is back along with 2 very good rookie tight ends, Brandon Tate and a very motivated Randy Moss playing to stay in NE. There are simply too many weapons this time around and if the Jets stay committed to the blitz, Brady will eat them alive!!!!!! Couple that with the Jets QB play, it's a no brainer

agree with a lot of what you said...but the books have to know that this is gonna be one of the most wagered on games in week 2 simply cuz its a jets/pats.... doesn't the play have to be the jets here?? ..you say its a no brainer, and if you've gambled long enough, you should know that when something looks too good to be true, it usually is...
any other thoughts?

I'm with you. I'm a Pats fan so I questiones if I was getting suckered into this, but after watching that abysmal offensive effort by the Jets last night I couldn't stay away. The Jets have a great defense, maybe the best in the NFL, but you've got to score points to win. They will need to keep up with Brady and the boys and I just don't see it happening. I went 5 units on this one. Got creamed in week one. I'm leaning on this came to right the ship.

Moss has publicly said this is his last year in New England. He's upset because they didn't give him a new contract. He's been snivelling ever since Brady got his new contract. I hope he will play his butt off but he is a bit of a diva. Still, there are plenty of weapons without him if he decides to play like crap like he did in Oakland.

is this a trap?????????????????
Before seeing the Pats/Bengals game I thought that the Pats defense was going to suck it up again this year. I had bought into the hype surrounding the Jets and resigned to the idea that this was going to be the year that the Patriots would lose their strangle hold on the AFC East. I capped this game (as best as I could) using tips I picked out of Dan Gordon's book "Beat the Sports Books" I had capped this game at -1 in favor of the Patriots. (Dan gordon has you play out the entire season mathematically as part of the power rating process).
I was actually excited to see this line because I felt like I had done a good job, but my opinion has changed pretty dramaticially on both teams. I upgraded the Pats because their defense is much better then what I expected. Are they still an Elite team. Maybe, maybe not, but definately better than a C+. I also downgraded the Jets because their offense is just not good enough to rate them as a serious contender.
My gut says this will be a blow out. The Jets have an excellent D but the Ravens exposed a couple of players in the secondary and you know Coach B will be watching the tape. The Jets are a one sided team. I don't think that New England's defense is elite like back in the early 2000s but it is good. Their offense is superb. They are a more balanced team and that is why they will win. (hope I don't eat humble pie next week but this is the way I see it).

agreed. the only reason why its -1 is because the public is hyping em up.
jets go 0-3, lose to the pats and miami. then tabloids start to say stuff about the jets and people start blaming rex ryan and sanchez.

Randy is desperately seeking a new contract to stay in NE. He loves everything about the place he's in right now except a new contract in front of him to sign. He met privately with Belichick yesterday and his tone has changed considerably. It's no secret that Brady is lobbying heavily in his favor also. Impulse speaking to the media will not get him his new deal in NE, however his play on the field will. Look for Moss to go all out Sunday!!!

It's my belief that sometimes early in the season you can catch some soft lines from the books based only on public perceptions. The way I see it, NEs' offense is flying under the public radar right now. This may be "The" best recieving core that Brady has ever had in his carreer. I also believe they may be able to surpass the numbers they posted in 07' and that doesn't bode well for teams they face stuggling on offense. As good as NYs' defense is, Belichick will have some answers for it. I think NE puts up anywhere from 30-35 points in this game and the Jets will be lucky to hit 20. Just my opinion on it but this NE offense is scary good and I just don't see it any other way. Good luck to all!!!!!

It's all about perception. If you like the Pats, get them now as I think this number will climb. Maybe -4 by game time.

When I saw this I was amazed. But I never bought into the Jets. Im a bot iffy on planning on a team to lose two in a row o start the season at home, but really.
The Jets offense is terrible, they gave up there best offenisve weapon from a sub par O last year. But im still biting, I may regret this game, but Going pats.

Based on what's on the collective mind of bettors using Week 1 as a barometer, then, yes, it could be said that this line is sketchy.
Though, if one watches a replay what Belichick did to the Jets in their second match-up last season with some tape under his belt, then it could be argued that this line yields 4, or even 5 points of value.
Fred Taylor is going to be a very important cog for the Pats in this game; he's a fvcking beast in blitz pick-up.
