I'm not as well-prepared for this season as I should be, but I'll rectify that over the next few days and feel quietly confident of improving upon my excellent 2009 season.
Tonight, no strong thoughts at all, but you have to SOME kind of bet on the season opener. As 'professional' as I might want to be, this is still about fun too.
I find this a tricky game. You think about the reigning champs' great record in these season-openers. You think about all the emotion and noise in the Superdome. You think about Favre presumably being a little rusty after dodging yet another training camp. But then you remember that the Vikings dominated almost every facet of the NFC Championship game - only losing in OT thanks to an horrific total of FIVE turnovers - and you consider how desperate they'll be for revenge.
In other words, I can't call this one at all. However, I like the under. Both teams recorded ridicuously low yards per point on offense last season, which should tend to mean that they will score at a lower rate this year. I imagine there's also a strong chance that the Vikes make this as nasty, physical and chippy a game as possible, and I have to think they'll be looking to run all night if possible.
So, a very very miserly 3 units (my typical bet will be between 5 and 10 units this season) on UNDER 49 points
Mystic Limey forsees: Vikings 17 - 23 Saints
