The Indianapolis Colts are not even close to resembling the team that they put on the field week 10 in the loss to the San Diego Chargers. In that game San Diego had all their weapons, Peyton Manning threw 6 INT’s, Addai ran for 55 yards, Bob Sanders played for about a quarter and a 27 yard game winning field goal was missed by Adam Viniteari. San Diego scored 14 of their 23 points of kickoff returns. Rivers only threw for 104 yards and Tomlinson ran for 76. Oh yeah, don’t tell anyone, they played in San Diego…
However, you can not judge the winner of this game off a single game in week ten, lets take a peak at why the Colts blowout the Chargers today.
The Colts have all of their starters playing today. Everyone has had plenty of rest going back to week 15 plus the bye week. Tony Dungy has been game planning for the Chargers and knows how to break every weakness they have. This season the Colts averaged 358 yards per game offensively and have the 3rd ranked defense allowing 279 yards a game. The Colts defensive unit ranks first in the league in points allowed holding teams to an average of 16.4 points per game.
San Diego on the other hand is missing their star tight end Antonio Gates. Gates led the team in receiving and opened up running room for LaDanian Tomlinson game in and game out. Erratic quarterback Philip Rivers will have to use Chris Chambers as his only weapon and all Chargers fans hope rely on Tomlinson being able to navigate through the Colts secondary that ranked 17th this season.
Indianapolis has the revenge, motivational, statistical. Home field and any other advantage a team can have over another in a single game. The Colts are healthy and rested and want to play the New England Patriots next week in Foxboro more then anything. San Diego is missing their star receiver and they are going up against the Colts secondary that is flat out scary. Rivers does not have the skill or experience to go into the dome and put up big numbers. LaDanian Tomlinson is the only hope for the Chargers, and with Bob Sanders back in the lineup any hope may have been dashed.
Indianapolis Colts roll in a double digit win and cover today.
