Why does stupid shit like this happen in the NFL?
Today a headline on ESPN.com reads "Coach Tomlin won't gaurentee Big Ben's starting job". What is the point of saying that and even worse reporting it? We all know that Ben would be starting today, tomorrow, or will start in five weeks. Why even posture like this?

Same shit with Revis. ESPN reporting on whether he is going to play or not? Of course he is going to ******* play. He is the best CB in the NFL even at 3/4 speed he will hold his own.

He is probably one of those types that wont shut up in a meeting. Just loves to here himself talk. How many super bowl rings does Roethlisberger have compared to Dixon or Batch.

That is what pisses me off the most. Why would ESPN waste there time reporting it to us when we all know the real deal?

Because 5 guys in this thread are interested. That's why ESPN reported it.

I completely agree. You know who pays attention to this stuff? The player. Why fvck with them? What's to be gained here? It's not going to result in more wins and that is all that's important. You think Tomlin cares about a hard stance? All he is worried about is winning games. His job, after all, is solely dependent on that singular stat. Screwing with guys like Rothlisberger or Haynesworth serves no purpose other than stroking the head coach's ego. It's incredibly stupid.

why announce to the public whose starting on Monday. Don't say anything and make the Falcons prepare for both Batch and Dixon. Bad move Tomlin, dumbass is off to a bad start already!

Just to motivate Dixon to play hard.. Making him think he's not just a sub, but the teams starting QB, and that he earned that. Also making him believe if he plays outstanding, he could win the job. Of course that's all BS and he has a 0% chance of stealing Ben's job, but maybe he's dumb enought to believe it..

As good is Ben is, is he better than Tom Brady or Kurt Warner, or even the way Cunningham played in '98
Unlikely but not impossible that Dixon plays unreal and keeps the job.

I agree that everyone knows Roethlisberger will be starting when he comes back, but what is Tomlin supposed to say. You're wasting your time Dixon? The big goof put the Steelers in this awkward position, and what if on the off chance Dixon plays great and they go 3-1 or 4-0?

If the Steelers go 4-0 to start the season, then Big Ben will NOT get the start when he returns.

because Tomlin figures his fill-in QB probably reads the papers / watches espn and he wants him to think if he plays well, he has a shot at keeping the starting QB job for the season. brain washing. In reality, he has no shot in hell even if he leads them to a 4 - 0 record while Big Ben is watching from the local Hooters. and I doubt the fill-in is stupid. he knows what's up. Don't put it past him to chuck a few Int's to pay Tomlin back for this idiotic press release.

I think Tomlin made it obvious he's not full of shit when he let Santonio Holmes go. The only person Pittsburgh is giving breaks to is Ben for obvious reasons.
