    Martz fired by Lions
I personaly do not like the move, but this is the Lions afterall. If anything Millen should have got the axe, but that's another story. Expect Martz to land in San Francisco as their new offensive coordinator.

The Detroit Lions have fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz and promoted offensive line coach Jim Colleto and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown to run the offense in his place, a source in the organization told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Colleto will be named offensive coordinator and remain as the offensive line coach, while Brown is being promoted to assistant head coach and passing game coordinator, and will also serve as running backs coach.

In other changes, the Lions promoted Shawn Jefferson from offensive assistant to wide receivers coach and fired Martz's son, Tim Martz, as an offensive assistant.

On Sunday, after their season ended with a loss to the Green Bay Packers, members of the Lions offense said the blame should be on them.

"You can keep changing coaches, but every time you change them that's a new system,'' said quarterback Jon Kitna. "The reality is, the games that we lost, the majority, the times that things didn't go right, it was self-inflicted stuff.

"It wasn't a coaching thing where you were outcoached or they weren't putting you in a position to be successful. There were plays to be made, and we didn't make them for whatever reason that is.''

However, Martz is not expected to be out of work for long. According to media reports, the San Francisco 49ers will seek him out as a replacement for current offensive coordinator Jim Hostler.

Martz led the St. Louis Rams to the playoffs in four of his five full seasons as a head coach, including a Super Bowl after the 2001 season, and helped the franchise win the 2000 Super Bowl as offensive coordinator. The Rams went 51-29 in the regular season and 54-33 overall during his five full seasons as coach.

As long as Ford is alive, Millen will keep his job.

I'm glad Martz got fired. He was too pass happy.. For the lions to be a great team they've gotta pound the ball.. Have the run set up the pass.. Martz is no longer the great coach he used to be with the rams.. Millen needs to be fired next but we all know that will never happen..

Martz lost that killer instinct he once had while coaching the Rams all those years. It's almost like he gets burnt out halfway through the game or something, because he will focus on trying to grind out the clock at times instead of his signature "full throttle" mentality.

Martz is just part of the problem in Detroit. The other parts are still there (Millen, Ford, head coach).

They will get it straighten out, all they need to do is draft another wide receiver.

                Haha

Personally I feel Martz' best days are behind him anyway, but Millen really needs to go. The Lions just need a solid defense, they'd be pretty good.

Mofome, I hope your right and Sf goes pass crzy but b4 they do..I wish they would just take their losses with A.Smith and trade him, and get some strong great receivers to continue the Walsh legacy and dominance. They need to keep Hill (who is very aggresive when rushing and decisive when throwing!) Looks like Martz would be a great fit, just as long as they keep Gore running the ball. Plus now that Nolan could focus more on coaching than the politics...let's see what he does.

Martz is probably glad to be out of that mess of an organization.

I' would too.! I dont understand why some teams keep hanging on to trash? Knicks and Isiah T... Lions and Millen!

I like Kitna too, but they need Draft a QB- Matt Ryan or Brohm will not be there, but if Brohm some how slips, then they should pick him! He is more ready then Ryan!
