    Billick Fired as Ravens Coach
The Baltimore Ravens finally let Billick go after a lot of speculation. Hope they hire Rex Ryan as the next coach. Press Conference on local TV right now.

Bilick didn't make many friends around the league. Wonder where he lands from here.

Billick needs to take a year off. He should clear his head, something is not right with him lately.

He did some TV work a few times when the Ravens weren't in the playoffs.

Bet the Baltimore media isn't sad to see him go. He seemed like a real prick in the PG news conferences.

                A couple of observations:

Billick is not the offensive genius that he and everyone else thought he was coming out of Minnesota. Clearly, in hindsight, that was more Moss/Carter, etc. than it was Billick.

Nobody wins for long in the NFL without a quality QB. Yes, the Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. Yes, the Bears got there with Rex Grossman. But when you look back at the Super Bowl winners you see a lot of Bradys, Mannings, Farves, Montanas, Aikmans, etc. Now, it's certainly fair to blame/criticize Billick for not finding/developing a quality QB during his tenure as Ravens coach.

As much as it pains me to sorta defend Billick, I'll end with this:
Is Billick a signifantly different coach this year at 5-11 than he was last year when he was 13-3 and awarded a contract extension?

                Doc

Good point about the contract extension, Doc. It was probably coasting on reputation & pretense. Billick probably had that job as long as he wanted it. This season, with his increasing antics & the team's tailspin, he was basically begging to get fired.

I never liked Billick. When he was OC in Minnesota, I never understood his "genius". Sure, they had a good year, but they also had some unique talent assembled on offense at that time. Not like there was a long running track record of accomplishment by Billick at that time. Then he goes to Baltimore and the offense really does nothing in his 9 years there, albeit the defense was as good as anyone EVER for those same 9 years.

Billick just seems like a poor man's Mike Martz with a little Mike Tice sprinkled in there, in my opinion. Maybe I'm missing something.
