How Far do you think the 49ers will go?

That is not saying much with such a BAD division. Until they get a qb they are stuck at 8-8 or 9-7. They will never make a legit run. Yeah i know teams win without a good qb but even the Jets couldn't get it done last year with the best defense. Win the division but out in one.

49ers have a very good chance to win their division. But I also agree with the rest, they wont go deep in playoffs.

The Niners are an average to slightly above average team in a bad division. So, I think they've got an excellent chance to win the division but I certainly don't have them on par with the Saints, Colts, etc. And I don't see them going past the first game of the playoffs.

Haha just playing they should win that division and get knocked out first round. They will dominate the division but lose silly games outside of the division like usual. This team needs one more year before they are a lock for the playoffs. Even with Warner and the Cards losing alot of people they will still make it tough on themselves. Believe they will lose 2 or 3 winnable games.

That being said they are on the brink they lost a majority of their games by 6 or less....

The 49ers are such a young and developing team, we really don't know what to expect. They should be fun to watch, though.

I can't see them going far with alex smith unless he somehow finally got it. Lot of potential though all over the field.

They could have made the playoffs if not for some tough losses. Last second lost to minny shows they were legit.

Singletary is stuck in 1985, too bad he doesn't have that year's roster. Alex smith is a QB born for a spread style offense... This however is the pros, and they demand a pro style offense. Singletary is putting a round QB in a square hole, with the same efforts he took to tackle opposing running backs. Singletary, has a burning desire to run it "the way they did back then."

Basic gambling says. A team's success is determined by 3 things
1. the schedule
2. the effectiveness of their OFFENSIVE and DEFENSIVE systems, and the cohesion of these systems.
3. the efficiency of the players in their system. (coaches win MOST often when they have the best players for their system, and not just the BEST players.)

They ran Martz out of town, to install a system of smash mouth football, which is a conservative approach, to say the least.. The game has changed since 1985. True dedication to this approach, should have resulted in the trade/release of Alex Smith. Who could probably flourish in a more OPEN offense, if given a chance with some talent around him. He ain't going to do it alone. Trade Orton to SF, Smith to DEN.. since this would work better for both of these teams desires.

As it is, even with a fortunate schedule, the 49ers will not do very much without a large change in Alex, and that is asking a LOT considering this team could be very good offensively if they opened it up. The thing about conservative smash mouth football is that SF will always be in the game. Losing close games versus good teams on the road, as an indicator of a team's potential is iffy at best. U won or you didn't. There are no half points.

Not only that they almost had the Indy game too, not to mention a few others. Alex needs to be craddled like a baby. Hopefully being in the same system with some emerging players will help him. Hell they lost two games on Special Teams alone. Hopefully having Ginn back there to catch the punt instead of muffing it will save a game or two.

I think the niners will win the west. I would have to disagree with them not going far in the playoffs. There have been plenty of teams with decent quarterbacks that made it far. Take the jets last year, yes they didnt make it all the way but they did win 2 playoff games, and Trent Dilfer with the Ravens just to name two. Alex Smith just needs to learn how to manage the game and not try too much. The niners have a top 5 defense, the best linebacker in football, soon to be best tight end in football,and a hell of a young receiver in Crabtree. So don't sleep on the niners this year especially in the weak ass West.

im not saying they are the best team, but i do believe they are the most underated going into this season. Ride them the first couple months.
