    Which phrase is most annoying?
"We have to line up and hit them in the mouth"

(really annoying, helmet to helmet contact is illegal, PLUS football players wear helmets, thus making the act of hitting them in the mouth impossible)

    OR

"This pick is a STONE COLD LOCK!"
(There are no locks in football otherwise Vegas would not be filthy rich)

thought about adding in #3 "We are just worried about next week's game"

I wish this was one of the choices because that one really annoys me. Of the two posted, I voted for stone cold lock.

Stone cold lock.....But while we're on the subject of annoying phrases:

"These guys really came to play today!"

WTF else should be expected of the particular athlete being lauded, even without considering the sizeable paycheck at the end of the day? And what would the alternative phrase to that be?

"...Well, it appears that he kinda came to play today. He's sorta lollygaggin' it out there, but overall his effort seems fairly satisfactory....."

By far the most annoying and over used line is

"We just need to take it to the next level"

No matter how much this phrase is used it always irritated me. What is the next level for pro players? Has anyone ever heard this and said "yeah coach you are right, we just need to take it to the next level"

I like punch in mouth better than stone cold lock....

The entire continuum of sports broadcasting is 99% cliche. Get used to it, I guess...

                            Here's some more:
                            "He gave 110 percent"
                            "Play within ourselves"
                            "Step it up"
                            "Tremendous upside"
                            "They just wanted it more"
                            "He's got great work ethic"
                            "Backs against the wall"
                            "They must generate/execute"
                            "Making a statement/Sending a message"
"They just know how to win"
                            "Demonstrates great athleticism"
"God was on our side today"
                            "Tremendous piece of hitting"
                            "Overcame adversity"
                            "A must-win ballgame"
"No one gave us a chance/No respect"

Ironically, regarding "We have to line up and hit them in the mouth", I saw a QB literally punched in the mouth by a rusher. I think it was Boller in the SNF game. Funniest thing I saw. I think the QB was suprised to get cold cocked as well.

You guys pulled some good ones out... You are 100% right slacker... It is 99% cliche and it leads people into using cliches on a daily basis... I hate that even more...

The one I hate the most is when a kicker missed because he has to "keep his head down"... That is my all time most irritating one... Coaches know better then to say that sh*t around me now but I used to hear it all the f*ckin' time...

Coach I talk to still talks in cliche's on a day to day basis... He comes up with some good ones... Yesterday we were talking and I told him my client is taking the rest of my Favre's and he told me to save him one because "his iron is hot right now"... WTF..???

I hear him on a consistant basis use ones like:

                              Diamond in the ruff
                              Wheels comin' off the cart
                              Deer in headlights

The two most overused words hands down are: adversity and swagger. I swear if I ever hear "swagger" again I will go fukking postal.

He overcame adversity. His mom made him get off her tit at 15. Fuk u, who doesn't have adversity at some time or another. "Swagger", is that a pimp walk or what. That is just cockiness. I don't see teams like the Colts having to have swagger to win. It was an excuse for Miami Hurricanes to act like idiot thug wantabees.

Swagger is kind of like "MOXIE"

"Tom Brady is really playing with some MOXIE out there"

Give me a break, they either make plays or don't. Their personal style or air of confidence is so overrated.

Regarding "moxie", it's somewhat easier to have moxie when the players around you are performing well. I think Tavaris Jackson has enough "moxie" or whatever, but he spent a lot of time on his back early this year, some of it unconscious. lmao. That's cool under pressure, brotha!

Even funnier, when Holcomb got in there he played like a scared cat. I think there was some issues with the pass blocking. But, it seems like they've fixed things since then in Minny.
