Rams signed rookie QB Sam Bradford, the No. 1 overall pick, to a six-year, $78 million contract, including $50 million guaranteed.

He'd better not bust. Signing the first $50M guaranteed deal in NFL history, Bradford can make another $8M in incentives. The 2008 Heisman winner will be in camp at the time St. Louis hoped -- ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Rams were targeting Saturday for Bradford to practice all along. Though there is concern about Bradford being a "system" passer, he learned plenty of pro-style concepts at Oklahoma, particularly early in his college career. We expect him to outplay A.J. Feeley in the preseason and be positioned to start Week 1.

The talent is there to be a star, but injury concerns are also there that would have me worried about giving him this much guaranteed.

Wasn't gonna sign him without the guaranteed cash though so it had to be done. Good luck to Bradford, hopefully he has a injury free career and we get to watch how good this kid is.

I agree with most here, and think Bradford has a much better chance of being a bust than a star. I always thought he was overrated in college and I don't think he's going to survive a full season with that o-line in front of him.

I keep seeing Bradford going down on that shoulder (Twice) and being taken out of the game(s). Also the agents get a nice cut so they will keep on as long as they can in getting these monster deals. It appears this will cease after 2010 though if a lockout is needed to get it done. Several good posts in this thread. Great points made, but if the teams are going to pay, don't take it out on the player. I would def take the guarantee as well even if I didn't feel I was worth it.

Well...he may be but as of right now he hasn't completed a single pass in the NFL.

The problem with QBs is 50% of them are busts. There were plenty of scouts thought Ryan Leaf was going to be better than Peyton Manning coming out of college.

Now, I'm not blaming Bradford. The NFL stands for Not For Long. You gotta get while the getting is good. If you want to blame someone blame the Rams. They gave Bradford almost a 25% increase in guarenteed money over last year's #1 pick, Stafford. And they, the Rams, will be the first team complaining about the current salary structure in the NFL.

This will be adressed in the next CBA.
