That's it! Just six times in nearly 23 seasons.

    10/11/87 - San Francisco (-23.5) 25, Atlanta 17 L
    10/11/87 - Dallas (-21.0) 41, Philadelphia 22 L
    10/13/91 - Buffalo (-20.0) 42, Indianapolis 6 W
    12/19/92 - San Francisco (-20.0) 21, Tampa Bay 14 L
    12/05/93 - San Francisco (-24.0) 21, Cincinnati 8 L
    11/11/01 - St. Louis (-20.0) 48, Carolina 14 W

Pretty amazing that two of the occurrences came on the same day (10/11/87)...LOL

Interestingly, the underdogs are 4-2 ATS. With New England now at -24, it is tied for the largest spread since 1985. If anyone knows of a bigger spread from prior years, post away!

That's crazy, -24. I took the over, because I know they'll put up a bunch of points but this way a backdoor cover or 38-17 type of game doesn't screw me.

LT, my data goes back to 1978, and I don't have any spreads at 20 or above from '78 to '84

This is totally from memory, but I think luciano is right. I believe the Steelers had won the Super Bowl the previous season and the Bucs were in the middle of their 0-14 innaugural season.

I have no idea who is good or bad in the past but I am now know that the New England is a very good team this year.
Final will be New England 35 Phila 0.

I think you're on target. This was mentioned in several articles. Here's an example:

Just three seasons after being separated by just three points in Super Bowl XXXIX, the gap between the Patriots and Eagles has widened to historic proportions.
