Just regressed the sides lines from 1970 to 2009 and the line is approximately .75 of a point closer to the actual game results over those years.
Does the line get better over time?

#6I just realized that I didn't mention it was the NFL line from 1970 to today, and yes I thought there would have been more improvement. On the other hand, if I can beat the line by .1 of a point over a season, I am doing quite well.Comment -

#9Are these closing lines?
If so, it might be the player that is getting sharper.Comment -

#10There is no question that the guys at the LVSS who make these lines have much better computer information and other stats today than they did back then. I would have thought that the improvment would have been more.Comment -

To answer the OP, of course they are sharper today than in the past, the market is much more advanced.Comment
