Just regressed the sides lines from 1970 to 2009 and the line is approximately .75 of a point closer to the actual game results over those years.

I just realized that I didn't mention it was the NFL line from 1970 to today, and yes I thought there would have been more improvement. On the other hand, if I can beat the line by .1 of a point over a season, I am doing quite well.

                  Are these closing lines?
If so, it might be the player that is getting sharper.

There is no question that the guys at the LVSS who make these lines have much better computer information and other stats today than they did back then. I would have thought that the improvment would have been more.

As usual, no that's not how it works. Ignoring the fact that LVSC is meaningless today, the market makes the lines not the oddsmakers.

To answer the OP, of course they are sharper today than in the past, the market is much more advanced.
