I hear where you are coming from. but would change as proposed really have much of an overall impact, except for maybe a few tenths of %? First of all, the percent of games that go to OT is small, Secondly, proposed change would only effect games where team winning flip wins kicks FG, and even there, there will probably be a lot of situations where the opposing team does not score on ensuing drive, meaning final would be same as current rules.

I don't agree with the field goal is the same as the touchdown but I do think something should be done.

          I Like this one

5 Attempts the team that scores more wins

If they are tied after the 5 attempts then
          re do it

Looks like it passed. I'm surprised. I never thought they'd make a change like this.

I thought the six points to win system made more sense than this.

But now that they're doing it, since late in games Red Zone defense is often >>>> than defense in general, do you think onside kicking if you lose the toss might be smart? They have to go for a TD, and if onside kicks count as turnovers, you only then have to kick the FG.
Walter forgot... when you're desperate's when you got no choice.

That's what I thought when I heard it but I what's the percentage of recovering an onside kick, 10%?

I dont know what the actual rules are like but assume one team can score the opening FG, then run back a TD off a turnover the next drive if they choose not to just kneel it for the win. Maybe it helps the favorite to cover anything between 4~9 points?

too many if and or buts and they only want to use it in the playoffs what about week 15 or 16 when some team are already in a lose and there out proposition . they should have made they rule for all regular season games as well as playoffs

This rule is applied to playoffs only.

If you can't stop the offense, you'll lose the game. It puts an emphasis on defense, which I think is good in a league where offense gets that much more attention
Are there statistics on how often the team winning the coin toss under the old rules wins the game in overtime?

I don't think there's enough good data to draw too many conclusions. OT simply doesn't happen enough to get a reasonable sample size.

The NFL is making this change for entertainment value & PR, more than fairness, IMHO.
