Wow - I was NOT expecting this ...
Source: Browns trade starting QB Frye to Seattle; Dorsey signed

    By TOM WITHERS
    AP Sports Writer
CLEVELAND (AP) — Browns starting quarterback Charlie Frye, benched before halftime in the season opener, was traded to Seattle for an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday, a stunningly swift move as Cleveland clears the way for rookie Brady Quinn.
The teams have an agreement in place, said a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was not finalized.
Frye was dealt less than 48 hours after playing poorly and being pulled in the second quarter by coach Romeo Crennel for backup Derek Anderson in the Browns' 34-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Frye, who made 13 starts last season and five as a rookie in 2005, beat out Anderson during a drawn-out competition that began during the offseason and carried through training camp and the preseason.
The Browns are also expected to sign quarterback Ken Dorsey, cut 10 days ago by the club, to a one-year contract.

Boy is Cleveland dumb. It's too early for Quinn probably by a few weeks, at least.... But to go thru that QB battle in preseason and give Quinn garbage time (he did pretty well for a rookie against the #3 teams..heh) just to do that? That's just flat out stupid. Cleveland basically did this open the Tim Couch era, too... Couch was a better prospect coming out of college, too.

It's no shock they resigned Dorsey. Aparently he was a good 'mentor' to Quinn in the preseason and he was like another coach for him. I figured Anderson would be the odd man out when the time came.

Cleveland is stupid. They could've made this decision in preseason OR they should live with their stupidity and let the Oline gel some. It is improved, but it's still very green. I know Romeo's job is likely done after this year - but making the move to Quinn now might give him one more.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH CLEVELAND! YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE ME RICH! I was waiting for this day to happen so I can unload on the other team. NO WAY is he ready. He is an overrated QB and he is going to get handled by the bengals. OMG I'm going to kill the books this weekend. THANK YOU SO MUCH! New Orleans, Bengals and Cowboys netting me 100K this sunday. THANK YOU!

The Browns are a mess. Hiring Crennell was a disaster. He's an assistant coach at best. When are these NFL teams going to learn to hire younger coaches. Romeo was a bad hire from the start.

Belichek's boys, Weiss and Romeo, are really struggling now. If the Jets tank the next couple of years, the word will get out. Don't touch Belichek's assistants, he does most of the work himself.

I figured Quinn would get put in as the Browns were like 1-5. Never expected him to potentially be placed in this early, which logically he still probably won't be.

Nothing like giving a guy a chance. Geez - after the whole preseason, Frye wins the job; after a quarter and a half, they ship him off to Seattle. Whatever.
anderson will likely play for awhile - he did OK on Sunday. Beside, they can't just pop Quinn in the lineup - not everyone is a Tom Brady.

I thought being an Arizona Cardinal fan was rough. It must be a lot worse liking the Browns. The management there is unreal. I hope Quinn succeeds. They should at least sign Leftwich.

I think this was a very good move for the Browns actually. They couldn't go this year with all that QB headaches. This just opens up the flood gates for them to now start Brady Quinn by week 6 when there out of the playoff hunt.

I was hoping he would play in game 2. I can't wait for the game he starts. I'm loading up on the other team assuming its not a pointless game.

Good move for the browns. Charlie Frye is a joke and now Quinn gets moved to #2 on the depth chart which means he'll get a lot more reps in practice and If Anderson fails brady will get the nod..

It is likely a good move, Dan, but a move that at this level should have been made weeks ago. Training camp and preseason produced the idea that Frye was a starter -that he was the man to lead this NFL team. A quarter and a half of play was all they really needed to know it was a mistake.

And they pay these guys all that money why?

Good move, he will get clobbered his first 2-5 starts but he will have more expierence come weeks 9-17...He should be a quality QB either next season or most likely the season after.

Cinci cleans up this week..covers the spread

It suprised me too. I guess these are the kind of moves that are made when stuck between a rock & a hard spot. Another rebuilding season for the Browns, not that the writing wasn't on the wall.
