#3I figured you'd take the Steelers today SG
ASHEVILLE — The Chicago Bears take a trip to San Diego this afternoon to play the Chargers, a team many thought should have played in the Super Bowl against the Bears last season.
The Chargers sported the best record in the NFL in 2006, going 14-2 in the regular season, while the Bears stormed through the NFC. The Chargers, though, were upended by New England in the second round of the playoffs, a loss that cost coach Marty Schottenheimer his job.
The Bears’ defense was key in their march to the playoffs last season, but interestingly, their former defensive coordinator, Ron Rivera, is now the linebackers coach in San Diego.
Key to today’s game will be the success of Chicago QB Rex Grossman. Avoiding interceptions will be especially critical today for Grossman, as what happens will set the tone for the season and for his confidence level.
For the Chargers, QB Phillip Rivers made a powerful entrance into the NFL, and with RB LaDainian Tomlinson in the backfield, it will be tough to outscore the … CHARGERS.
Atlanta at Minnesota: I’m no Falcons fan, but I’ll be hoping that they play well today without suspended QB Michael Vick. I won’t spout the “101 Damnations” of Vick, but after the tribulation he caused his team, it’d be redeeming for the Falcons if they play well. Besides, the Vikings are a good start to 1-0 for the … FALCONS.
Carolina at St. Louis: Going into last season, it was thought that the Panthers might be Super Bowl contenders. But 8-8 doesn’t get you to the big game — and neither does an anemic offense.
In an attempt to put some life into the Carolina offense, coordinator Dan Henning was fired and Jeff Davidson was brought in. Part of Davidson’s scheme is to get the ball to star receiver Steve Smith. The preseason wasn’t a good example of how this plan might work, as the Panthers scored only one TD in the last three games. Still, the St. Louis defense ranked second-to-last in 2006, and that could mean an easy start for the … PANTHERS.
The rest of today’s games (picks in bold):
Miami at Washington.
Denver at Buffalo.
Kansas City at Houston.
New England at N.Y. Jets.
Philadelphia at Green Bay.
Pittsburgh at Cleveland.
Tennessee at Jacksonville.
Detroit at Oakland.
Tampa Bay at Seattle.
N.Y. Giants at Dallas.
Monday’s games:
Baltimore at Cincinnati.
Arizona at San Francisco.

#9wow..what a great card
so far 8-2-1 with San Diego still to be decided, I am assuming Detroit covers, looks like they will.
What a great card.
San Diego just came in....sports girl's card goes to 9-2-1....geeze, I got massacred today.

#12Neat article, but I'd rather see picks with exact spreads & moneylines quoted. I mean, who wouldn't be picking straight favorites if everything else is equal? Yes, I realize you didn't pick straight favorites. But, this is a sports betting website. Quote some betting lines, please. Otherwise, offer some betting angles that can be used. I don't mean to be a wet blanket, keep up the good work. I enjoy the enthusiasm.Comment -

#14Where are you getting those numbers, curious? She's 8-4 missing on ATL, Mia, Buff, & Jax. Hell, I'll give her Indy & make it 9-4 SU, even though she didn't pick the Indy game in her article, I imagine she would've. Picking straight favorites gives you 9-4 SU. Don't even start if you want to start grading ATS. I'm saying there is zero substance to these kind of articles. I still encourage the enthusiasm, I'm not a hater.Comment -

#16If you'd rather see spreads and more gambling angles, check out one of the other pro gambler's threads. Sportsgirl has been listing simple straight up picks only, did so all of last year and will hopefully do so all of this season. Sorry that you find zero substance to her articles, slacker, but not everything has to has some '10-4 ATS on Monday Night, 5-1 Over when playing three days before a full moon' angle to it to provide substance or entertainment.Comment -

#17Nancy,
Any reason why you don't simply paste your articles straight in here rather that just posting the link? Better yet, if its a traffic issue, maybe you can post the link AND the text.

#18It is a traffic issue, as print media is very much going to the Web and I like my editors to see that my picks column is generating traffic. But I can post both, if you promise to still click my link
My thanks to all of you who have enjoyed my posting here - I truly appreciate that and really enjoy coming here.
To Slacker - I'm sorry my column here is of zero value to you. Perhaps I'll try and be more entertaining in the future. While I'm not much of a gambler, I do play the lottery sometimes - does that count? Anyway, I do intend to keep posting my column here as I've enjoy the feedback, regardless of the type, and I enjoy reading what others write here. I quite simply love the game of football and as long as it's OK with everyone, I'd like to hang around again this season.
Besides, Gummo would be lost without me, wallowing in his delusion that the Bengals will win the North.Comment -

#30Good job Sportsgirl, keep posting, don't mind a few sour grapes here. I understand his points, but always good to get as much information and opinions as possible. You did great this first week as for me I stumbled out of the blocks going 4-4 ATS on my week 1 plays. Will turn it around. Always cool to have a woman that digs sports. Good luck the rest of the year.Comment -
