The Nigerian Nightmare was the first 1 that came to my mind. Christian Okoye in Tecmo Super Bowl was unstoppable

I"ve always like "The Fridge". William Perry was a BIG man.

The worst name given is by Chris Berman with Curtis "my favorite" Martin. That was incredibly lame.

I grew up a Cowboys fan and I don't remember ever hearing that one. It was always Roger the Dodger.

For pure on-the-money simplicity you'd have to go with: Mean Joe Green.

Kinda creepy considering what happened with Darryl Stingley: Jack "The Assassin" Tatum.

Or howzabout good old Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch

Crazy Legs is one of the best. Also liked Lou 'The Toe' Groza and Larry 'Zonk' Csonka, and remember Roger the Dodger more than Captain Comeback.

The ones that stood out to me more than any of the above were "Mean" Joe Green and Kenny "The Snake" Stabler.

Yeah I agree with Bigboy dan those stand out more but I would have to go with "The Fridge" and "Iron Head"... I remember Roger being called captain comeback...

Very true Berman's names were mostly bad... I liked when he said "heeee-heeee" Micheal Jackson makes the catch...

My favorite regular name was a linemen that Pitt. had back in the day named "TUNCH" Ilkin...

You guys are too young. We need to know our history.

3 hall of famers come to mind :

                      Bronislaw ( Bronko) Nagurski
                      Clyde (Bulldog) Turner
                      Slingin' Sammy Baugh

All were 2 way players, at least for parts of their careers.
Today we have long snappers and 3rd down specialists, etc. yuk.

Baugh, one of the all time QBs , led the league in interceptions one year and also was a great punter. I think he led the league in that one or more times.

I think Turner, the center AND linebacker , led once in interceptions.

I was glad to see someone already mentioned Crazylegs Hirsch and Lou ( the Toe) Groza, who had a long career as a first team tackle for the great Browns teams. I miss the days when kickers were football players.

I wonder who was the last placekicker to also play a position as a regular. My guess right now off the top of my head is Lou Michaels.

Ummmm they still are... If you are a Browns fan then the kicker should be your favorite position... Without one they would have been shut out in most of their games the last 15 years - minus the time they didn't exists...

If you are talking about punters as well then "Bate.." MacCannally for the Bengals is who comes to mind for me... I have heard of most of the names you mentioned... If players went both ways now they wouldn't finish the game/season...

Met the legend and got his autograph when he coached the '64 Oilers. Great all-around player and like I said, a still a legend down in these parts.
