No, but he did own a team in the old USFL. That lasted for 3 years. Trump paid some huge salaries to players to sign with his team, and tried unsucessfully to sue the NFL.

It was actually succeeding in the summer, but then Trump moved it to the fall to go against the NFL and it died a quick death.

The USFL might have made it if they had stayed with their original model of playing in the spring and sticking with minimal salaries. Trump started a bidding war, and all of the other teams joined in. If Trump understood that it was league vs. league, just as much or more than team vs. team, then things might be different.

Maybe he means Vince McMahon's XFL?

Trump didn't start the USFL, he bought a USFL team in year 2 and eventually helped lead to USFL's ruin.
