SBR's Gary Pearson shares his Chiefs vs Seahawks prediction for NFL Week 2 preseason action on Friday, August 15th:
Against the spread pick: Seahawks -3 (-105 DraftKings)
"To the delight of the feverish faithful at Lumen Field, most Seahawks' starters will get some game time. While I doubt Sam Darnold plays more than two series, any points he can put on the board will be a bonus as far as my Chiefs vs. Seahawks prediction is concerned.
After hearing that Andy Reid probably won't feature most of his starters, including Patrick Mahomes, I would have backed the Seahawks to cover the spread even if Darnold doesn't see the field.
With Gardner Minshew locked in as the team's backup QB, I expect Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun - who are battling to secure the third-string role - to carry the bulk of the load. Zapped by inaccuracy, Bailey tossed two picks in a ghastly 8-for-17 performance last week against the Arizona Cardinals.
Meanwhile, third-year signal-caller Oladokun was 6-for-13, finishing with 39 yards.
While it's certainly no lock, I'm more confident in Drew Lock's ability to move the ball, at least in the preseason and despite his pick against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jalen Milroe should also get plenty of reps, but I have more confidence in the rookie than I do Zappe, which speaks volumes."
Best bet: Over 38 (-110 Caesars)
"This Over is predicated on the Seahawks' ability to move the ball at home against a second-string Chiefs defense. I'm slightly concerned that Lock's time might be limited to facilitate additional minutes for Milroe.
However, I'm banking on Darnold to get the Seahawks on the scoresheet before his cameo concludes. And with Lock and Milroe under center, the Seahawks should do just enough to push the game over 38 points.
I hope Minshew plays for a few series before the Chiefs turn to Oladokun and Zappe, but I'm still confident, albeit to a lesser degree, if they don't.
Caesars is the only one of our best sports betting apps offering a total of 38. The rest offer 39 or 39.5. The difference in odds is almost negligible, with Caesars' -110 odds slightly shorter than FanDuel's -105 odds."
