Not so fast my friend. 1st round running backs still produce with the best of them. Think of the last few backs to go in the first round, quite a few of them are starters not close to being supplanted. AP, Ronnie Brown, Cadillac, Steven Jackson, Beanie Wells, Rashard Mendenhall, Knowshown, Felix Jones, Darrin Macfadden, Joseph Addai, Chris Johnson, Jonathon Stewart, and Deangelo Williams, just to start. Still take the best running back in the draft in the first round if you have that luxary.

Brown - injury prone
Cadillac - always hurt
Felix - nothing special
McFadden - bust

You can also find good players later in the draft Jones-Drew, Rice, Turner, Grant, Jamaal Charles, Brandon Jacobs, Shonn Greene were all drafted later and are all good. To me while you can definitely hit on RB in the 1st you get the least bang for your buck. RBs just don't last long and for the investment I want long term guys.

What about Jerry Rice's receiving yards record? I happened to look it up, his almost 23k career yards is almost 8k better than #2 on the list.
