Report: Steelers Will Fire Offensive Coordinator

The Pittsburgh Steelers will reportedly fire offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, according to Ken Laird of 1250 ESPN in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have not confirmed the move, and coach Mike Tomlin didn't mention any personnel changes at his end of season news conference, ProFootballTalk.com reports.
Arians was initially hired in 2004 by then Steelers coach Bill Cowher to be the wide receivers coach. Earlier in the day, Pittsburgh quarterbacks coach Ken Anderson announced his retirement. Anderson, 60, was the first member of Tomlin's original 2007 staff to leave.

The team scored 24 or more points in 9 of it's games. They lost games to Oakland and Kansas City by identical 27-24 counts. I can't see blaming the offense here. If anything, the defense was a major disappointment, not being able to keep leads. Look how many more points they gave up this year compared to last. The fact of thematter is that Pitt averaged 23 ppg last year and 23 ppg this year. Last year they gave up 15ppg. This year they gave up 20 ppg. There is where Pitt's problems lie.

Deshea Townsend gets beat alot but so does randall gay maybe it is the lack of pass rush...steelers are going to have to do something really good in this draft. Big Ben won't stay healthy behind that o-line for a full season until they fix it seems like every play hes scrambling for his life. taking a beating like in the dolphin game. They need things ahead of CB but Joe Hayden from Florida would be a big improvement over deshea Townsend imo.

It's curious how the Steelers got away from the running game late in the season. I wouldn't say it's worth firing the OC, though.

I finally wasn't afraid to bet over on pitt games cause they can score points now! WTF??? Their D is horrible which is what pitt has prided itself on for years.

offense definately wasn't the problem.... except that they couldn't establish a run game at all. A big part of which is due to the poor o-line. But when the Steelers have a late lead, they have ALWAYS been able to run the clock and keep the lead. This was the first year where they let teams get close near the end, let alone come back from double digit deficits to lose. That's the fault of the defense, but the lack of a run offense to kill the clock didn't help.
