Chargers are the hottest team in the NFL, but Titans are the second hottest since 0-6 start and they are playing for their playoff lives. Meanwhile, game means nothing to Chargers because they will almost certainly clinch bye at home vs. Deadskins next week anyway.

Now playing the more desperate team doesn't always work (see Jags vs. Colts), but here you are talking about a HOT team that needs to keep on winning.

Tennessee is 7-2 in their last 9 games, winning by an average of 2 points.

Well if you throw in that 59-0 loss by the Patriots it's obviously gonna throw the stats off, 8 games ago is when VY came in and the Titans turned their season around and since then they've been winning by 11 points per game.

Here are the facts... TN's strength's are running the ball and stopping the run... they are also more and more effective passing the ball, however their weakness is pass defense which is the Chargers strength.

The Chargers are very good at passing the ball, but stink at running the ball, and they're defense has no real strenghts theyre right in the middle of the pack.

The game is pretty evenly matched and could go either way, but the Titans should get the edge from homefield.

Here's a few telling stats: This season the Titans are 2-7 against the spread against teams with a .500+ record in their previous 6 Games. The Chargers are 3-0 straight up and 3-0 ATS vs. the Titans in the last three years (and 4-0/4-0 in the last 5 years). San Diego is 9-0 in their last 9 games, winning by an average of 12 points. Tennessee is 7-2 in their last 9 games, winning by an average of 2 points.

San Diego wins by at least 3 points, and maybe by a lot more. I'll bet the Chargers ML and take the 3 points, averaging out the risk so I break even if the Titans win by 1 or 2 points. I expect a nice pay day after the Chargers clinch a playoff bye and the Titans begin planning for next year.

Yes the Titans will be more motivated IMO, but the Chargers are not going to take it easy, they flat out don't like the Titans... and will probably be more motivated for this one then they were the last couple weeks.

With all due respect LT, I totally disagree with the statement that this game means nothing to the Chargers. There are so many good reasons for why the Chargers will take this game very seriously:

As a Team:

1. Clinch the 2nd seed and bye right now, and rest their starters next week.
2. Take out the hot Titans from reaching the playoffs, where they can be very dangerous.
3. Preserve their perfect December record, and continue to establish themselves as the masters of the strong finish.
4. Show themselves as truly a Superbowl contending team by performing on the national spotlight, where many will watch this game.

For Key Charger Players:

1. Push for Philip Rivers as a worthy candidate for the MVP race, by outshining the Titans candidate: Chris Johnson.
2. Time for Tomlinson to step-up big, considering that all eyes are on Chris Johnson this year, a worthy young RB challenger to LT.
3. It was the Titans who injured Merriman in 07, and Merriman has never been the same ever since, so look out for Merriman to play extra hard for this game, probably harder than against any other team.

I just can not take seriously the comment that Chargers do not care for this game, or that it means nothing to them, or that it is not critical to them. It is absolutely critical, a key game within the conference.

Of course there is no such thing as easy money in this business. I wrote that to make a point about the game; I think it is the easiest choice of the weekend with the best line.

I might be wrong. We all know what happens when you think you've found the best line. Tennessee is a dangerous team and playing hot. But I don't think they are Super Bowl contenders and I do think the Chargers are. The Chargers are not going to take this game lightly and count on beating the Redskins next week to secure their playoff bye.

The first sentence is a trend. The second sentence is a historical comparison between the teams. The third sentence was a stat I definitely skewed by dumping in the Titans 59-0 loss to the Pats nine weeks ago. But at least it somewhat balances the 47-7 thumping the Titans gave the St. Louis Rams a couple weeks ago.
