Since it's almost a pick'em game, I'm rolling with the Saints. Worth a shot to roll with the undefeated home team. The Pats have lost 3 of 4 away from home. I know they 'should have' won the Indy game, but they didn't.

I like the Saints and the over no doubt. I don't think NE can stop the Saints offense like they could not stop the Colts.

I am not sure I like the OVER, but its a lot of points 56 points pretty much calls for each team to score 30 which is tough to do. There is only a point spread so really its either Saints -1 or NE ML. I like the NE ML a little, but not enough to pull the trigger, really I just really want to watch a hell of a football game.

              If just north of 3 TD's is 4 TD's then yes you are right....56/2 = 28

I don't see how either defense stops the other one. its going to be interesting, my lean is NE and the OVER, but I can't convince myself either way.

Saints all the way. Allow me to throw way too much information at you:

I remain stubborn in my opinion that all is not well on the New England offense. Their struggle all year has been finishing drives, and against a team like the Saints I don't expect them to be able to get away with this flaw. This year (Discounting the Titans game, in which Tennessee clearly wasn't interested in playing), the Patriots have scored 23 offensive touchdowns to 19 field goals. This means that only 55% of the Patriots' scoring drives have been touchdowns, the 9th worst percentage in the league. Also, the Saints have proven to have a very capable pass defense, which ranks 6th best in the league at yards/pass attempt allowed. I expect them to dial up the pressure and throw Brady off of his game a bit, again limiting the Patriots' scoring opportunities a bit.

The Saints however, have been excellent at scoring all year as everyone knows. The Saints continue to have the best passing offense, fifth best rushing offense, and best scoring efficiency in the league. The Patriots defense is middle of the pack in both rushing and passing defense, and allow 68% of scoring drives on them to end in touchdowns, the 8th worst percentage in the league. So, it looks like the pieces are all in place for the Saints to have yet another big offensive night. As I've said before, the Saints are one of the few teams in the NFL that appear to still have a large home-field advantage, and I expect that to only help on Monday night against the Patriots. Saints should win this game by a touchdown at least, something like 38-27.

I then had someone who I email plays to reply to me on these topics and note that New Orleans has struggled lately and the Patriots have been much better. Here is some further information I turned up to reply:

I always appreciate hearing other peoples' opinions, thank you for taking the time to share yours. You're right, New England has been playing better as of late. However, I do take that into account and I do have stats about how each team has performed lately. Allow me to throw some numbers your way:
                                        • You cited Brady's rough start the first third of the season, so let's strike weeks 1-4 from the books for the Patriots. I will strike the Titans game as well, simply because it is obvious in watching that game that the Titans simply were not giving a full effort and allowed themselves to be steamrolled. So, we're looking at a five game span for the Patriots. In those 5 games, we have 15 offensive touchdowns, to 8 field goals, which I will admit is an improvement over the season long stat I was looking at. Defensively however, they've allowed 14 touchdowns to 2 field goals, a very bad sign going against an offense like the Saints' that knows how to maximize drives.

                                        • The Patriots, indeed have improved throwing the ball lately. Over that five game span, they're throwing for 7.78 yards per pass attempt, second best in the league. However, they are only running for 3.77 yards per rush attempt, which is 7th worst in the NFL. Against the Saints, I think being one dimensional like this will hurt them.

                                        • You implied the Saints have been playing worse lately than they were at the beginning of the season, so I'll split their numbers down the middle and see what the stats say. The last five Saints' games, they've scored 18 offensive touchdowns to 6 field goals. On the defensive side of the ball, they've allowed 12 tds to 7 field goals, and only four of those tds were passing. They threw for 7.75 yards per pass attempt, and rushed for 4.93 yards per carry. Their passing defense has been superb, allowing only 5.32 yards per pass attempt, 2nd best in the NFL. Their rushing defense however, has suffered due to the absence of Ellis, allowing a whopping 5.1 yards per carry, worst in the NFL.

                                        • Over the Saints' first five games, they scored 22 tds to 6 field goals, allowed 7 tds to 5 fgs, threw for 8.24 yards per pass attempt, and rushed for 4.61 yards per attempt. Their defense allowed 5.45 yards per pass attempt, and 3.83 yards per rush attempt. So yes, they've been scored a little bit more on, but they still are much better at minimizing damage than the Patriots are. In my opinion, the only significant difference is their rushing defense. However, against a one dimensional team like the Patriots, is this going to be that big of a problem?

So, in my opinion, I've got to think the Saints are the play. Good luck tomorrow night guys!

belichick is one of the best coaches in the game right now. If you think he made a mistake in the 4th down 2yard play then you are not intelligent enough to understand. I promise you he will have something special dialed up for brees and the saints. They may not be able to completely stop them because whatever he comes up with will a gamble, but if it works, the pats will win by a decent margin. If it doesn't, they could be blow out. Either way, I don't see it being close.

You also have to remember that the Saints defense isn't as good as the Colts defense, Saints are going to have trouble stopping the Patriots. Saints team defense stats might be average, but they have played a lot of crappy teams.

saints D will not be getting any pick 6 scenarios tonight..

while their offense may be better than the pats, their defense is in for a long night.
