Horrible lines this week, at least it looked that way. I've been too busy to spend the time I normally do on looking at the match-ups, unfortunately.
Still, I've opted for a max bet (10 units) on San Francisco -2.5 over Atlanta
I don't like Atlanta's chances either running the ball themselves or stopping the 49ers (regardless of Frank Gore's absence). The Niners have also shown themselves to be capable of handling decent opposing passing attacks, and their long grass field won't hurt either against a travelling team who call home a dome.
I was interested this week in the level of advantage that Josh McDaniels might gain as Tom Brady and New England's former QB coach and offensive co-ordinator - but I haven't quite been able to pull the trigger on siding with Denver. However, I give McDaniels' Broncos a fair chance of stymieing the Pats on offense and I imagine Denver will be trying hard to establish the run, so I can't help but take the Under 41 points at Invesco Field for a 5 unit bet.
Cleveland showed some signs of life - at last - against Cincinnatti. While I have to grit my teeth to oppose a home team (Buffalo) who need a performance after being thoroughly embarrassed last week, I give the Browns every chance of winning a close one at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The switch to Anderson at QB was the right one, while this whole no-huddle thing isn't working out too overall for Buffalo whose offensive line is probably affected by fatigue as much as the defenders who have to stay on the field during series. Cleveland's previous four opponents are a combined 14-2, suggesting Mangini's squad may be somewhat better than advertised. Cleveland +6 for 5 units.
Finally, I guess we all expect it to be shootout time at Arizona on Sunday. I reckon Houston will relish this after previous games against the hard-nosed likes of the Jets, Jags and Titans and in a game that could go either way I'll root for Warner (4 ints, 2 fumbles in 3 games) to make more mistakes than Schaub. In a rare bit of boldness I'm going Houston money line at 2.8 (3 unit bet).
Roll on Sunday, and good luck - as long as you're not on the opposite side of any of these!
