    The Curious Case of Crabtree
I want to try and understand the unexplainable.

Why hasn't Michael Crabtree really signed?

Currently he has no money, is losing money everyday, and will never be able to make as much money as he is currently being offered.

What is Eugene Parker doing here? Does he have no control of his client, because I can't believe an experienced agent with other clients would pull such a risky move. Perhaps Parker planned some sort of scheme for Crabtree, it seems unlikely though because of the guaranteed payday, how could you turn that kind of assured money away?

I have to assume there is something we don't know.

Maybe Crabtree is having injury problems and knows he won't be able to pass a physical or something like that.

    Let the conspiracies begin...

Maybe Crabtree isn't even a real person....but an alien that had to go back to his own planet for the year.

Yeah, seems silly from what we hear so there may be underlying reasons which we aren't privy to.

        Crabtree is an idiot.

Let him walk. I hope the 49ers stay the course and do not give in. Crabtree can be an example of how he ruined his career by being greedy and players can stay away from dumb agents like Eugene Parker.

yea i'd say that's gotta sum it up. everything i've heard leads me to believe this. why would he give up 5 million dollars for a whole year he'll never get a chance to make back, in order to get a contract worth an additional 1 million?

looks like SF just called their bluff - good for them, even if they weren't playing well. i wouldn't want to play for the NFL, honestly (not that i have what it takes, but still) - but i can do other things with my life to be successful. what else does michael crabtree have? oh well. some peoples' children

EDIT: I know that's not the contract numbers they are discussing, but that's the jest of it

I hope SF stand by their offer and not give in. They are doing OK without him. They won't make the superbowl with him anyway. The kid thinks he can make more money re-entering the draft next year. He is on crack.

He has an agent telling him he is losing money every day and won't be able to make more next year! Why hasn't Eugene Parker been fired then?

What kind of person says no to money...maybe he feels disrespected by the whole process since heyward-bey is making more than him.

What is the deal with this Jets tampering thing...adding to my conspiracy theory.

He's a dumba**, he wants "fair market value" which to him means getting paid top 5 money as the 10th overall pick and getting paid as the #1 receiver in the draft after getting drafted as the second. He needs to quit living in mock drafts, and get to trying to do something in the NFL and be happy with the millions of dollars that most will never see.

that makes sense. Crabtree was probably here filming K-PAX 2 and then left.

Last week during half of Thurday night game Lou Holt (Dr. Lou segment) had a pretty good idea - Crabtree goes to 49ers without agent and negotiates best offer. Crabtree hires agent and tells him he will pay him a certain percentage of anything he can get above offer Crabtree originally received.

Heyward-Bey's contract has Crabtree (and his agent) drooling, but the 49ers aren't going to be budging much on their current (and very reasonable) offer. And if Crabtree skips to next year's draft, there won't be another Heyward-Bey lunacy to set as a benchmark for his own contract.

He's giving up a lot of money and rolling some big dice if he holds out for the season. And Eugene Parker is risking his agent rep if Crabtree ends up on the scrap heap next year for whatever reason.

Does anyone remember when a season-long hold out worked out to the player's advantage in a big way?

                                      Crabtree, 49ers meet

Michael Crabtree and his agent, Eugene Parker, met with San Francisco 49ers front-office personnel for an hour Tuesday in the Bay Area.

Team spokesman Bob Lange confirmed the Tuesday meeting to The Associated Press but said the 49ers would not get into particulars of discussions or negotiations.

"The 49ers were pleased to meet with Michael and Eugene in person," Lange said.

Crabtree and Parker met with VP of football operations Paraag Marathe, owner Jed York and GM Scot McCloughan.

Indications are that Crabtree wants to play football for the 49ers this season, but there was no word on what kind of progress, if any, was made on a possible contract. Parker and Marathe continued to negotiate on Tuesday night, sources familiar with the negotiations told ESPN's Michael Smith.

The two sides had gone almost three weeks without talking.

The 49ers must sign Crabtree by Nov. 17 for him to remain eligible to play this season. The team would have a seven-week window before the 2010 draft to trade Crabtree if he doesn't sign. If Crabtree is not traded, he would go back into the draft next April.

San Francisco's early season success could be enticing.

The 22-year-old Crabtree hasn't accepted the 49ers' long-standing offer for approximately five years and $20 million with a reported $16 million guaranteed -- instead seeking money comparable to the higher picks.

Coach Mike Singletary acknowledged last month that the 49ers discussed changing their offer to Crabtree.

And York said in mid-September the team hoped for a face-to-face meeting with Crabtree but hadn't heard back from Parker. So, this marked the first session with all the major parties involved at the table.

They met at an undisclosed spot in the Bay Area away from the team's Santa Clara headquarters.

The 49ers selected Crabtree with the 10th pick in this year's draft and could use the wideout's game-breaking ability in the passing game. That said, he has a lot of catching up to do to learn the offense after missing all of training camp.

He also sat out the 49ers' offseason minicamps and organized team activities while recovering from a foot injury, but was a regular presence for rehabilitation and strengthening workouts at the Niners' training facility.

Singletary, whose team leads the NFC West and at 3-1 is off to its best start since 2002, said Monday he would welcome Crabtree whenever he shows up to join the team.

Crabtree caught 97 passes for 1,165 yards and 19 touchdowns last year during his sophomore season at Texas Tech. He finished his college career with 231 receptions for 3,127 yards and 41 TDs.

They are kicking ass without him, but their passing games sucks. They need him to suit up. He's an idiot for not signing though.

Michael Crabtree's holdout continues. My question, of course, is this: Why not?
Why should Crabtree be expected to take an offer that would lowball him?
We know that Crabtree will be a star, and everyone thinks so, including Crabtree.
Here, though, is an interesting problem. If you take the examples of Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Brandon Marshall, you will see that holding out is in the best interests of Michael Crabtree.
                                          Why?
Because if we believe that Crabtree can perform at the same level as Fitzgerald, then he should be paid accordingly.

Crabtree isn't guaranteed to be a star or even a good player. He has a better chance of being a bust. He was picked #10 and will get #10 money, he will not get paid more than the #9 pick. 49ers don't need him as he will not contribute this season. Hope he does keep holding out and enters next year's draft. He will go late 1st round at best or maybe the 2nd round next season and will not get close to the money he would get this year.

What are they now 3-1? If I were the niners I'd lowball him now. Why should they pay him a bunch of money to disrupt what they have going on?

I still think they need him to be a big time team. I day he signs before week 8.

                                                    Let the conspiracies begin...
i hope he doesnt even make it in the nfl.any man that plays a game for a career and then pulls this shit should see what its like in the real world.he had the perfect scenario in texas and perfect quarterback and if he thinks its going to be that easy in the nfl.he got a few screws loose.its crap like this ,is why the nfl should have a cap for rookies until they prove themselves.

This guy shouldn't even be allowed to play in the NFL, not now, not ever. He is a prima donna a$$ hole. Not signing with the team that drafted him because mock drafts showed him going as the top receiver in the draft, so he now feels he's entitled to top WR money without ever playing a down in the NFL? He's going to sit out and enter the draft again next year? Screw this guy, I don't care how well he played in college. Millions of athletes dream about playing pro sports but this guy is gonna sit out because of what some mock drafts predicted? His agent should be banned from sports for pissing all this nonsense in his ear. I almost never root for players to get injured, but I hope this guy suffers a career ending injury the first day that he does end up playing.
