I understand this, but I think there’s more nuance to this story. Early in the season they lost quite a few people - Mostert first, then Trey Sermon - their top two RBs. Elijah Mitchell stepped in as a lower draft rookie who also has gone through some injuries, and wasn’t amazing right away.

Edit* they lost Jeff Wilson Jr, Mostert, AND Trey Sermon - their higher draft pick above Mitchell.

Deebo is a monster, but the first half of the season, the Niners weren’t using him in the same utility role that they did the second half. He wasn’t lining up in the backfield or getting those sweep / screen touches as much. I feel like they’ve made quite a few adjustments to their game plan based on available personnel and that’s why their second half of the season was much more successful. They lost to GB by 2 points and believe there were some injuries in that game as well.

In sports, it only matters how well you’re playing at the time. Look at the Braves, they just won the World Series - mid-season they looked like they’d miss the playoffs and were very mediocre. They played their best baseball at the end of the season - they got hot. Feels sort of like the 49ers.

I could be wrong about all this but these numbers don’t necessarily accurately predict results.

I hear ya, odds are that SF loses here but just wanted to comment on the story of their season since I’ve been following them pretty closely. When they played GB this year, they went down 17-0 early and were using Trey Lance, trying out new packages. This hasn’t been the case as of late so we may see a different game. Just my 2 cents!
