NFL changes in next 5 years
How many of these happen in next 5 years?

My stance on the NFL is a very simple one. The NFL owners love their money. But they always want MORE.

    1) Remove the guaranteed Top 4 slot AND Home Game as Division winner. Earning a Playoff berth is enough. This year it worked out OK. In past years, there has been one weak division, locking in the Home Game is too much.

    2) Expansion. I really think the NFL is so big now that fan-base isn't saturated. I could see the move from 32 to 34 coming. And the 34 could be a provisional view on moving to 36.

    3) Expand into Europe. Per #2, I really think the London games have been a set up for putting TWO teams in Europe. London/Munich would be most obvious. I really think it's manageable with one travel partner and two-week stints IN/AWAY from home.

    4) 18-game Regular Season. Remember, more is better. Even if that means TWO bye weeks and only TWO pre-season games. Everyone (Coaches, Players, Fans) hate pre-season. 18 games over 20 weeks might be OK.

    5) 16 teams qualify for Playoffs. See the playoff expansion from 12 to 14 teams. If the league expands, we could be staring at a full 8-team bracket per conference. Could still say that < 50% of teams make the playoffs. The owners love the Playoffs as Must-See TV, but I think they feel shorted on 13 total playoff games.

        Thanks, Jackie.

I was recently at the Pro FB HOF. Cool wall-mural showing every NFL owner. Try counting up the Net Worth in that picture!

I was in a hurry when I left that message

#1 maybe but that would make it like NBA where the top 7 AFC and top 7 NFC are in and Division would be for tie breaker only

#2 Plenty of Cities that would love to have a Team and willing to build a stadium and other perks to lure them

#3 Long shot but all about the money maybe Canada or longer shot Mexico

#4 Expanding playoffs is a when not an if to much money not too. When this happens #1 will be off table

I Always wanted to go to the NFL HOF!! In the late 90's when I was driving a truck for a living my route took me thru Ohio every other week I wanted to go then, but never made it

World financial crisis and geopolitical issues will stifle sports in the next 6-12 years, which are already end stage empire circuses given the corporatism and shutting out of the middle class. Establishment people don't want to believe and can't consider this even, they are so used to good times, so they will think I'm crazy.

I love sports traditionally but it's become a total joke of entertainers and completely corrupted from college all the way to pro, regarding the pricing and luck they've had with it being great TV entertainment, and betting. When the welfare state runs out and betting is harder for people even, the jig is up.

Good post, Green. I'm with you. Change is in the wind.

I can point to one game that killed my Love of football. I was attending the Viking/Packer game about 4 years ago. Clay Matthews hit Cousins and causes a pop-up INT. Matthews cradles Cousins so to not injure him. Roughing the Passer call, totally bogus. Made me think that we officially moved to Entertainment TV.

                Thx for the post, Jack:

                1) One other thing I hate about the top 4 getting the top 4 seeds. Sometimes, there's a STRONG 2nd-place team that WOULD HAVE earned the 2-seed. That 2nd-place team has to play all their games on the round. Think the Division winner should earn a playoff bid, nothing more.

                2) Yes. Cities like San Antonio and Oklahoma City could support a team (I think).

                3) My impression is that Mexico is too impoverished to get enough ticket-holders. Canada is possible for Toronto or Montreal. 2nd expansion team w/ London, maybe.

                5) I swear to you that the NFL owners were talking last weekend about how nice it would be to have two MORE playoff games. They like counting $100 bills.

You should get to the HOF. They do a good job of presenting. Go there w/o someone who is going to slow you down. Go for four hours and soak it in.
