NYG - RB Saquon Barkley injury timeline update

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) is expected to be sidelined anywhere from four to eight weeks - with the longer timeline being the more likely of the two outcomes - with the high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 3 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

High-ankle sprains are known to linger if not given enough time to properly heal. The Giants will move forward with Wayne Gallman as their starter while Barkley is out. They have Elijhaa Penny on the roster too, but he's a fullback. They should sign another back or two to the active roster. Jon Hillman and Austin Walter are on their practice squad at this time. We'll see if they promote from within or sign someone off the street.

CAR - QB Cam Newton ruled out for Week 4

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) will not play in Week 4 against the Houston Texans.'What Cam needs right now is time and rest for his foot. We want him at 100 percent when he's ready, so there's no exact timetable for his return. At this point, we're going to go forward with Kyle (Allen) as our starter,' head coach Ron Rivera said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's quick, but the team needs to do everything possible to make sure that Newton is as close to 100 percent as he can be before his return. Allen had a good debut for the Panthers on Sunday. He threw for four touchdowns in the Panthers 38-20 victory over the Cardinals in Week 3.

CIN - WR A.J. Green not returning in Week 4

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (ankle) will not return to practice this week or play in Week 4 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Zac Taylor.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Who knows how long it's going to take for Green to return to the field. He may not return until he's 100 percent healthy because Green is in the final year of his contract. The Bengals move on with Tyler Boyd, John Ross and Auden Tate as their top trio of wide receivers.

NE - No major injury for WR Julian Edelman

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (chest, rib) is reportedly not dealing with a major injury after leaving the game for good in Week 3 versus the New York Jets, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see what Edelman can do this week in practice. X-rays came back negative and there is some hope he may be able to play in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

ARI - WR Michael Crabtree cut

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Crabtree was released Monday, Sept. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crabtree didn't do much in his brief time with the team. He played 32 snaps, was only targeted five times and caught four passes for 22 yards. The Cardinals move forward with Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk as their top wide receivers. Damiere Byrd is the team's No. 3 receiver and has played 206 snaps in three games this season. Rookies Keesean Johnson and Andy Isabella will compete for snaps too.

NYJ - QB Sam Darnold progress update

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Sam Darnold (illness) will begin cardio this week and is hoping to play in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles. While his spleen has shrunk 'a little' as his body continues to fight mononucleosis, it still is not where it needs to be to gain medical clearance.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on Darnold next week in practice. The Jets have a bye in Week 4 and they'll be preparing for an Eagles team coming off a long week (Eagles play on Thursday night this week).

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton update

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (quadriceps) aggravated the quadriceps injury he had coming into the game Sunday, Sept. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just as the Colts offense seemed to have more life on Sunday. Keep an eye on this situation as the week goes on. Hilton re-injured his quad a couple of plays before he scored a touchdown, but he didn't want to leave the game before the drive was over because he knew he wasn't coming back. He'll have tests done for re-evaluation.

LAC - WR Travis Benjamin may miss Week 4

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (quadriceps) is considered questionable for Week 4 because of a quadriceps injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin is the team's No. 3 wide receiver behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. He doesn't get that many looks with those two dominating the targets. He's been targeted 10 times in three games and has only four catches for 17 yards in 2019.

LAC - TE Virgil Green day-to-day

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers TE Virgil Green (groin) is dealing with a groin injury and is considered day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers have Lance Kendricks as the main receiving tight end with Green banged up and Hunter Henry out with a knee injury. Until Henry returns (maybe in 2-4 more weeks) we won't be too excited about a Chargers tight end.

OAK - RB Josh Jacobs may see more targets

Source: The Athletic - Jimmy Durkin

Oakland Raiders RB Josh Jacobs is a player that the team would like to get more involved in the passing game, according to head coach Jon Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jacobs could use more work in the passing game. He's a talented back and he's no slouch as a receiver out of the backfield either. Jacobs, a 2019 first-round pick, has only been targeted three times in three games so far this season.

BUF - No timetable for TE Tyler Kroft

Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills TE Tyler Kroft (ankle, foot) does not have timetable for his return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kroft has yet to play a game this year. He was trending in the right direction but suffered a setback in practice last week. He missed Week 3 and his status going forward has no timetable. Dawson Knox, their rookie tight end from Ole Miss, is the lead pass-catcher at the position.

ATL - Atlanta RBs banged up

Source: The Athletic - Jason Butt

Atlanta Falcons RBs Ito Smith (concussion) and Kenjon Barner (concussion) are in the league's concussion protocol, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Falcons have Devonta Freeman as their lead back but they could use guys like Brian Hill or Qadree Ollison with Smith and Barner banged up.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery a good bet to play Week 4

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Reuben Frank

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) stands a good chance of playing in Week 4 after missing Week 3 with a calf injury, according to comments made by head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for Carson Wentz and the Eagles passing game. We'll see if Jeffery can get a full practice in at some point early in the week. The Eagles travel to play against the Packers on Thursday night in Week 4.
