With the Bengals down in the dumps after last week's tough loss, take the Steelers and the points this week when the two rivals meet in Cincinnati.
The Bengals probably blew their chance at the playoffs with that botched extra point last week, and the players know it.
Yes they are mathematically alive, but it is a virtual certainty that the Jets and Broncos will claim the final two AFC wildcard spots with home wins over Oakland and San Francisco respectively this week. Even setting aside the psychological factor, it is always dicey giving this many points with Cincinnati because the defense usually gives up points just as quickly as the offense scores them. The Bengals are generously allowing 23.4 points and 341.6 total yards per game here at home this season.
Pittsburgh officially had its season come to a screeching halt with a 31-7 home loss to the Ravens last week. But remember that it was the Steelers that eliminated Cincinnati from the playoffs last year en route to the Super Bowl title, and at this point they would like to salvage something from this year by officially eliminating their long-time division rivals from playoff contention.
