    Will Cleveland EVER Learn?
How utterly dumb can one organization be? Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it the Cleveland Browns that drafted some hot shot QB named Manziel back in 2014. He was one of the TWO 1st round picks that the Browns had that season. The other pick was wasted on some DB named Justin Gilbert. His biggest play was to get suspended for one year by the NFL.

Not to be discouraged, the Browns wasted two more 1st round picks in 2015 by taking Danny Shelton and Cameron Erving. Shelton is a good run stopper. Erving is a complete bust. Neither player is close to a 1st round caliber player.

in 2016, the Browns had only one first round pick to waste, and they did so by picking Corey Coleman, a WR who has broken his hands twice during his short career, and cannot hang on to a pass thrown at him. Another waste.

Having failed at just one and two first round picks, the Browns tried three 1st round picks in 2017, opting for DE Miles Garrett, S Jabrill Peppers, and TE David Njoku. While it is early to judge these players, Garrett missed 5 games due to injury last season, Peppers played in 13 games and was considered by some to be "disappointing" by many for a 1st round selection, and Njoku had 32 receptions in 16 games as a TE for the Browns, the best performance out of the three first round picks.

So with this record of futility, Cleveland keeps their HC, replaces their front office, and ends up with two first round picks again, this time #'s 1 and 4. So who do they take? A Manziel clone and a CB wh may or may not be a star, while passing up 3 other QB,s who were ranked higher than their pick and perhaps the best player in the draft at #4.
And Cleveland fans wonder why they will NEVER see a Superbowl, much less win another terrible job by a terrible organization.

It doesn't seem to matter who the GM of the Browns is they seem to get it wrong. It's too early to tell for Mayfield and Ward; If I was the GM for this draft I would have gone Darnold or Rosen @ 1 and then Chubb @ 4 was a no brainer IMO.

i defended cleveland GM for awhile. but not sure i'm able to after thinking about it.

a few contrary and supportive thoughts,

some of those picks you criticized were not exactly high first round picks. so i do think later in 1st round there is lots of room to be creative/unique.

having said that, i would have thought that cleveland could have moved down for both picks, but maybe not.

is mayfield really a manziel clone? strikes me that manziel was much more of a mobile, playmaker which doesn't fit the NFL QB model. don't know that much about mayfield but he seems much closer to normal nfl qb.

mayfield was a walk-on at 2 universities.... makes me wonder about the talent level, although he certainly produced.... ties into trading down though.

denzel ward is interesting... if you think he's a super-elite CB then it's a good pick. if he's only elite then it's a terrible pick...... i liked chubb as a pick based on the position. i think pass rush and perhaps lead WR are by far the most important function/player outside QB... minkah would have been a good pick too.............

you forgot josh gordon but is that going back too far?

with football competition very competitive in texas I suspect the rating services just bungled on Mayfield. He was only a 3 star qb and prob had scholarship offers but probably werent where he wanted to go. him being walk on at oklahoma was not the normal situation. fact that he was walk on at those 2 big schools and started and was very successful says a lot.

don't follow the NFL incredibly closely but it seems like the browns need a WR really badly and i think stud WR's are fairly rare. doesn't seem like there was one this year, nor will there be one next year.

has anyone done statistical analysis as to what positions you need stud talent and you can only get it from the draft.. obviously the nfl is pass-crazy as is the draft, so i guess QB, LT, WR, CB, DE/OLB/pass rush. not necessarily in that order except qb first.

would love to the see someone like the sporting news do a 2 year mock draft of every non-QB in the league. would be very interesting. and what i mean is you only get the player for 2 years and no salary cap so it would pretty rank players according to value right now.

i see mayfield's agent saying patriots were exploring trading for mayfield at #2 and that jets would have taken him at #3 (hope i got the jets part 100% correct)...

source is perhaps a little questionable but if true i think it validates browns' pick of mayfield at #1

They have made horrible picks overall, but Garrett is a stud.

Been following pro football since the eighties and i have never seen a team as bad as the Browns who continue to lose year after year after year. Just how bad are they???

Since 1990 the Browns have had only 3 winning seasons....1994,2002 and 2007....terrible

Since 1990 the Browns have been to the playoffs.... just 2 times..... 1994 and 2002.....horrible

Since 1990 the Browns have won ZERO division titles.........bad

Since 1990 the Browns have had nearly 40 different QB's and 12 head coaches

Since the franchise rebooted in 1999 their record is....88 wins and 200 losses ,dead last #32 overall since '99

No other team since '99 has 200 losses.

The last 15 seasons they have finished last in the division 13 times.

Record the last 3 years is 4 wins and 44

But after nearly 30 years of unequal futility from 1990 thru 2017 i think it is finally about to end.

I think in 2018 Cleveland will at least hit .500 and could very well be a threat in the AFC North which is not as strong as it once was. Baltimore has not been to the playoffs but once in the last 5 years and Cincy has not been the last 2 or 3 seasons.

The defense should be stronger plus the offense has some decent QB's and weapons offensively.

You have to be kidding me. What did they do. Run you out of the last site you used to post in for utter stupidity? Do you honestly think that the Browns will hit .500. Again you show your ignorance. Even if the AFC North is weaker overall, the Browns still have two GUARANTEED losses to Pitt. They have non-con away games at New Orleans, Oakland, Tampa Bay, Houston, and Denver. They have non-con home games against the Jets, Chargers, Kansas City, Atlanta, and Carolina. They will lose at least 6 games to the NFC South and AFC West. Those losses, plus the two to Pitt give them 8 losses, and that is assuming that they win every other game they play. That is simply NOT going to happen. They have a terrible Head Coach and staff. A terrible front office. A terrible organization. 8 wins is NOT going to happen.

No one said they were winning the GD Super Bowl. Do i think they could go 8-8 yep sure do. They aren't gonna stay down forever.

The Browns suck i know this.

I did a post showing how bad they've been the past 2 or 3 decades.

Only been watching NFL since the 80's.
