PIT - Ben Roethlisberger plans to return in 2018

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger told reporters Sunday, Jan. 14 that he plans to return for the 2018 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
He's nipping a big offseason story in the bud here. It's not impossible for him to change his mind, but we would proceed in dynasty leagues and preseason redraft leagues as if he will return for next season.

JAX - WR Allen Hurns doesn't show up

    Source: The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns posted just one reception for 12 yards on two targets in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hurns has been mostly a non-factor for the Jaguars despite Allen Robinson going down for the year in Week 1. He might be a cap casualty if the team brings Robinson back this offseason.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon shows well in playoff win

    Source: The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon ran five times for 20 yards and a touchdown in the AFC Divisional Round playoff win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Jan. 14, and he added three grabs for a team-high 57 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeldon's big catch and run late helped the team salt away late. He gives the Jaguars a solid backup in case Leonard Fournette's ankle causes him to come up gimpy next week.

BUF - WR Zay Jones to undergo surgery

    Source: BillsWire - Robert Quinn

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday, Jan. 16, to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder that he played with for the majority of the season, according to his father.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones had a disappointing rookie season despite ample opportunities for a large role in a weak Bills wide receiver corps. 2018 will be crucial for his development, but Jones will be in an offense is under construction.

ARI - Brian Flores expected to be finalist

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores is expected to be one of the finalists for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching position, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flores is only 36 and has some offensive coaching experience with the Patriots in addition to extensive experience on the defensive side of coaching. The NFL continues to chase the Patriots success through their assistant coaches.

DET - Detroit likely to hire Matt Patricia

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Detroit Lions likely will hire New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as their next head coach, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He would be working with a GM (Bob Quinn) from the Patriots system, which would assist in finding good fits for the Lions defense, which has holes at multiple positions. It seems likely that the Patriots are going to lose both of their coordinators this offseason.

IND - Josh McDaniels favorite for HC job

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is considered the clear favorite for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching position, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That should cause excitement in Andrew Luck's fantasy outlook for 2018, as long as he can make a full recovery after losing 2017 to problems following his offseason shoulder surgery.

CAR - NFL doing concussion protocol investigation on CAR

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The National Football League is currently investigating whether the Carolina Panthers properly followed concussion protocol with QB Cam Newton during the NFC Wild Card game against the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Jan. 7. Newton was poked in the eye and also suffered a knee injury after taking a hit to the head from DT David Onyemata. A league source said the injured knee was a contributing factor to Newton staggering to the ground and having difficulty maintaining his balance. He was taken to the team's blue medical tent on the sidelines for evaluation but was not sent to the locker room, as the league's new rules require.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
No matter what happens with this investigation, the league needs to police team behavior on concussion protocol more closely. The Tom Savage incident alone caused concern that some teams still aren't being circumspect about looking after player safety following possible head injuries.

PIT - Todd Haley could leave Pittsburgh

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who is a free agent at the end of the season, might not return to the team next year due to a souring relationship with QB Ben Roethlisberger, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. As a result, quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner has moved from the booth to the sidelines to act as a conduit between the two. If Haley does not come back, Fichtner is a potential candidate to become the next offensive coordinator.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Haley has done a good job maximizing the Steelers passing game after the rest of the league seemed to sour on him and he would probably be a welcome upgrade at offensive coordinator for more than one team.
