ARI - WR John Brown cleared to return Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) was cleared to practice on Sunday, Aug. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is big as Brown's concussion absence was beginning to get to the worrisome stage. We want to see him play in Week 3 of the preseason, and certainly a second concussion this year will be a problem for Brown, but this news puts him close to his pre-injury ADP.

NE - RB Dion Lewis expected to miss two months

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is expected to miss two months because of his second knee surgery and likely will start the 2016 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis could play a role down the stretch and we know that on a per touch basis, he is highly productive and efficient. He's worth a later pick in deep leagues where you can stash him, but in short bench leagues, it is difficult to justify carrying Lewis for two months and forgoing multiple waiver wire opportunities.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls to return in two weeks?

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) should return 'in a couple weeks', according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It doesn't sound like we'll get to see Rawls in the preseason. If we do it will be in the fourth preseason game, which would be better than nothing. It appears that Christine Michael will get a decent workload in the season opener against Miami and a chance to hold down enough of the work to keep Rawls in RB2 territory instead of the RB1 he was last year once he took over the job.

DET - TE Eric Ebron likely for Week 1?

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (ankle) still has no timetable for a return, but there is some optimism he'll be 'ready to roll' by Week 1, according to Detroit Free Press writer Dave Birkett.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The mystery around Ebron's ankle injury isn't comforting, but it seems like it is not serious from all outward indications. At worst, it is probably a high ankle sprain, which would put him back on the field around Week 1 by the typical timeline. Ebron still needs to avoid re-injury upon return, and Anquan Boldin is playing well, so his value has taken a hit since the open of camp.

MIA - Mike Pouncey may miss opener

    Source: ESPN.com - Joe Schad

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) could miss Week 1 of the regular season after suffering a hip injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 of the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pouncey hasn't played in 16 games since 2012, and it looks like that streak will add another year. Anthony Steen was an undrafted free agent in 2014 and he has no NFL regular season experience, but he is slated to start for the Dolphins at center Week 1, when they go into Seattle.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch could start

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch has not been ruled out for the starting job, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. 'He's always been in the mix,' Kubiak said. 'Everybody is in competition to play.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is more a sign of how Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian have not seized the job than a sign that Lynch has made leaps and bounds of improvement this summer. Sanchez is still probably the best bet to start, but only a slight favorite with the third preseason game likely deciding the starter unless Sanchez craters. Either way, whoever starts will be on a short leash.

NYJ - NYJ wants to see RB Matt Forte in action

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Jets RB Matt Forte could 'get a few snaps in' during next week's preseason game against the New York Giants if head coach Todd Bowles gets his wish, according to SNY reporter Ralph Vacchiano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte is being given veteran deference by the Jets coaching staff. He has looked good in his return to practice and should be slated to start against Cincinnati in Week 1 whether he plays in the preseason or not.

DEN - RB Ronnie Hillman likely out in Denver

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman has fallen to No. 3 on the depth chart, and 'it would be a surprise' if they elected to pay the remaining $1.4 million on his contract, according to 9News.com. reporter Mike Klis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Devontae Booker appears to have the inside track for the backup job, but Kapri Bibbs has been building his status with the team and could figure into the mix too. Hillman should easily catch on elsewhere after Week 1 once injuries start to hit other team's backfields.

ARI - S Tyrann Mathieu practicing Sunday

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is practicing with the team Sunday, Aug. 21, about 35 weeks after tearing his ACL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The typical ACL recovery timeline is shrinking more and more (unless you're Dion Lewis). Mathieu got a big extension this offseason, and it looks like he could be ready to face Jimmy Garoppolo and the Patriots in Week 1.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald back at practice

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) is practicing Sunday, Aug. 21 after sitting out the team's exhibition game against the San Diego Chargers on Friday, Aug. 19 with a slight MCL sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fitzgerald was never a worry even in the wake of this news. He generally plays well through injuries, and this one seems like a very minor issue.

CHI - RB Jeremy Langford sheds boot

Source: Chicago Bears Radio Network - Zach Zaidman

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford (foot) is no longer wearing a walking boot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As expected, the walking boot was a precaution and not a sign of an injury that could impact Langford through the rest of the preseason and possibly into the season. He has emerged as the #1 back in Chicago and merits a pick in the mid-rounds, especially for minimal running back starts to drafts.

CIN - WR Brandon LaFell practicing Sunday

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (hand) participated in practice Sunday, Aug. 21. He caught balls during warmups.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a good sign that LaFell's hand injury won't keep him from playing Week 1 against the Jets. If LaFell can go it hurts Tyler Boyd's Week 1 sleeper train momentum a bit.

HOU - PK Nick Novak in concussion protocol

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak (concussion) is in the NFL's concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Novak has been competing with rookie UDFA Kai'mi Fairbairn and holding a lead, but if this concussion is an issue, it could be put his Week 1 status in jeopardy. You should probably just stay away from the Houston kickers with so many other options in fantasy drafts.

NE - RB James White thrives as receiver

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

New England Patriots RB James White was 18th among running backs last season with 54 targets despite playing in just 12 games. He caught 40 passes for 410 yards and four touchdowns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White was a fantasy RB1 in PPR leagues last year after Lewis went out, but Julian Edelman was also sidelined and the team did not have a viable second tight end in the passing game. He's still at least worth a second half of the draft pick, and it won't be surprising if White is a startable PPR running with the Patriots early season schedule against stout fronts like Arizona, Miami, Houston, and Buffalo.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon may practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (quadriceps) hopefully will be able to participate in practice this week, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopefully we can see Terrelle Pryor, Corey Coleman, and Gordon on the field next week. The Browns could have a very dynamic pass offense if Robert Griffin III keeps his poise and distributes the ball well. Adding in Gary Barnidge at tight end and Duke Johnson as a receiver out of the backfield will only help.

CLE - Coach wants WR Corey Coleman to play

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said he hopes WR Corey Coleman (hamstring) will be able to practice this week and said it is important for Coleman to play in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman is still worth a pick as one of your first bench wide receivers, but if he can't play next week, it could be a slow start for the rookie. He could get a lot of targets in an offense that will have Terrelle Pryor and eventually Josh Gordon stretching out defenses. Coleman's absence has been long enough now that we have to worry about re-injury for his first few practices back.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco expected to play vs. Detroit

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) has missed the first two preseason games but is expected to play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All signs point to Flacco being ready to go for the season opener against the short-handed Bills defense. He should be a good streamer with the likely high volume of passes in Marc Trestman offense.

NFL - RB Karlos Williams expects to join new team

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) fully expects to find a new team after he was released by the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 20, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams showed too much last year to be on the waiver wire for long. He's got excellent speed and receiving ability for a big back. Even if he has to wait until his four game suspension is over, Williams will get signed somewhere - assuming that he has shown that he will keep himself in shape.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton bothered by sore hamstring

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) continues to be bothered by a sore hamstring, which he suffered in the preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll want to see this clear up by next week to dismiss it, but even if Hilton can't play next week, his third round ADP is a discount from the WR1 he has been with Andrew Luck over the last two years of his career.
