Why Washington will cover: Joe Public is riding the media's coat tails of how the Giants should be 2-0. Well the Giants are one of Joe Public's favorite teams that still ride the tide of those 2 championships oh so long ago. The Giants are lucky that they were even ahead of both of those games. Honestly, they lost like they were supposed to but added a little drama for the NFL's TV ratings. They got me. However, what I got from both losses is that the players and the coaching staff are not on the same page. Hell, the coaches and the coaches are not on the same page. This is a downgraded bunch of what the Giants used to be. They have one star and that is that receiver that Eli will only throw to because the rest of those clowns can't catch.

What Joe Public does not notice is this is not your momma's Redskins (my Redskins won two championships in my early twenties). That is a hint of how long I have been miserable. Well, so long RGIII. I have two jerseys that I thought I would cherish. You still have a shot but not tonight. That is the key. This Gruden cat is showing signs of the Bengal's days. One year removed from RGIII and the former regime's players and he has Washington on a steady and positive path. Big bro is whispering in his ear I know. Nevertheless, Washington has a two-headed rushing attack with the new guy being the product of the new regime's drafting. Gruden has silenced the RGME Era and now they have the number 1 defense in all of the NFL. Yeah, only two weeks but who would think that Baltimore and Seattle would be 0-2. It is called parity guys, and finally there are some headstrong guys in Redskin's management. These skins are for real. They beat what was supposed to be two of best defenses in football but too bad they only managed to win one of the games. It was a fluke loss in Miami just like the Giant's have two fluke losses. Call it what you want. I call it, take the points!

KIRK COUSINS IS WHO I THOUGHT HE WAS!

I am a die hard Redskins fan. I have been through the glory days and this crap we have now which has spanned almost two decades. I never liked Kirk Cousins and I really do not after he cost the skins the game or at least a cover. This loss is hard to stomach. It hurts even more knowing that the false hope I had in Kirk Cousins was indeed false. Where the hell is Kirk's Uncle? I rather try him at QB!

COWBOYS +1.5

Why the Cowboys will cover: Call me crazy but this game started out as a PK. Are you serious? So this tells me Vegas has little faith in the new and improved defensive minded Falcons. Vegas expects this ragged tagged bunch of Cowboys to score at least three touchdowns so somehow the Cowboys will pretty much be in this game. Atlanta struggles to run the ball. Dallas can stop the run. Since there is no run to stop the Cowboys will apply pressure on Matty Ice. I foresee the Cowboys controlling the clock and tempo with long slow drives. I would not be surprised if the Cowboys walk away with a win.

Joe Public sees a beat up Dallas Cowboy team facing the high Flying Falcons. These are the same high flying Falcons that struggled with the dysfunctional Eagles. Even this beat up Cowboys team managed to pull it together and finish with a win last week with Brandon Weeden under center against the same Eagles. Brandon Weeden knows what is expected of him and the Cowboys will have a game plan. The Falcons were toasted in the second half by those same Eagles. Defense? Do not be fooled. The Cowboys have the defense which will help keep them in this game. The Cowboys defense made those same Eagles look like a practice squad. Sam Bradford looked like my kid's 6-year old team's quarterback. OVERWHELMED!

I still cannot get over how Dallas blew that lead last week. Houston is nowhere as talented as Dallas but they hung in there just as well. I feel the Saints: Brees, Ingram, and Colston. For old time sakes.

Detroit +9.5 (40%)

Why Detroit will cover: This seems to be one of those trap games. You are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't. I feel if Vegas was so trusting in Seattle's defense that the spread should have been 14. Vegas does not like to do the two touchdown spread but they have done it more than you would care to think. Why not in this case? Detroit has been putrid or have they? Stafford has been a turnover machine. That is the key. Stafford has been a turnover machine and yet they have not been blown out. Detroit was in all of its games despite not being able to run the ball or pass downfield. Yet to mention, they have played formidable defenses. I think that Seattle's defense is not the same as in past years and that their offense is one dimensional. All they have tonight is Jimmy. They will force feed him because really they have no one else. They will win but I think that Detroit will hang in there.

Vegas has the over and under at 43. That is pretty low to me. I know they expect Seattle's defense to show up but they do not expect much from their offense. Detroit will score. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are leaps beyond Jimmy Clausen and whatever receiver was active for Chicago that game. This is the first game that Lynch will not be on the field since Baldwin and Wilson have been teammates. I think Ebron and Detroit make this a game.

Why Lean Houston: Only on one condition though. Houston has to be favored. These Thursday games see the favorite cover mostly. I don't know what algorithm the scientist at the NFL Labs use to pick these "I can't believe this $hIt" type games. They never turn out the way they are supposed to. More than likely Indy will be favored if Bandage Luck plays. If he plays and they are favored I will leave the NFL and Vegas alone.

I like Houston regardless of who is the quarterback for Indy. Luck has become gun shy and some of the guys on the squad are feeling more comfortable with a quarterback who is almost eligible for early social security benefits. The coach does not like management and vice versa. Who cares? They don't. I do though. Indy's defense is horrible. Their offense is horrible. Their offensive line is horrible. Frank Gore is old. He is just like a geriatric, he has no memory of how to be a formidable back. I think he signed just to get a paycheck. Andre Johnson got older than a mayfly. He is done. Where in the world is T.Y. San Diego? Donte is not enough.

Houston has not been blown out despite such awful quarterback play. The Atlanta game seems like a blowout but they hung 21 on the Falcons. Dallas did the same but after halftime adjustments Dallas' defense got ran out the gym in the second half. Atlanta just ran the ball down Houston's throat. If you have a running game they are suspect. What made it worse is that Houston lost this game because they thought Atlanta was going to be arial. Atlanta is a dynamic offense with an above average line that can run and pass, and if you can't stop the rush they will run the ball down your throat because their aerial attack is on point. The Texans held ground. Whoever is the quarterback for the Colts is in for a long day. Houston still has one hell of a pass rush but they have played against some of the best offensive lines in the NFL so far this year. The Colts suck! Other than Atlanta the Texans were in those games even with bogus quarterback play and a wishy-washy coach. They are healthy now with Foster and Clowney getting more reps, and Hopkins will eat regardless of who is throwing the rock. If you have a number 1 receiver, half of a quarterback, and an aggressive front seven you can win. That is enough for me to say "howdie patna?"

This is an update from the lean from a few days ago. It turned out the way I figured. Houston is favored and there is reverse line movement. The public is jumping for joy because Luck is playing. Little does Joe know Indy would have a better chance with that 40 year old guy under center. Good luck.
