Wanting some advice...

If you want to be a serious bettor you are better off reading up and learning before diving headfirst into it, just like poker. Parlays are generally losing bets. There are exceptions, such as a two team parlay where each of the bets is correlated. Two big factors of sports betting that have nothing to do with the mind numbing hours of research are money management and line shopping. Sports betting is a marathon not a sprint so you must ALWAYS remember that and try extremely hard to limit chasing losses and betting bigger than your bankroll allows (one or two percent of your bankroll is generally a solid base amount to bet on each game). As for line shopping, you should have funds at several sportsbooks so you can get the best odds possible on each bet. Saving a couple cents on each bet you make adds up.

Yeah I hear you parlays are tantalizing, especially to new bettors. I think we've all been where you are, and the parlay fevah is worse in you because you hit a big one so early! My advice would be to not just cut out parlays but limit yourself to a few SMALL two teamers a week. That way you get your fix but can concentrate on more profitable bets. Hopefully in time you'll see the parlays are sucking away some profit from your 'real' bets and you'll bet them even less.

Edit: And one more thing. You will find that after learning the basics of sports betting the advanced information after it is harder to find than in poker, which is both a good and bad thing.

gotta love the parlays...bet while you are hot believe me, and when you hit that cold streak that everyone does...dont give up, youll be back, so just bet while your hot!
