Run out of the back of the end zone and there will be 5 seconds left. That's not enough time for Atlanta to set up any kind of FG.
Come on Harbaugh.

Would have done it if not for the 10 yard run on 3rd down

Atlanta had 5 seconds left after they regained possession.
How were they going to run a play and set up a FG with no timeouts left in 5 seconds..
It would have been impossible. They would have still been throwing one last Hail Mary.

I had Atlanta +4 and it was wishful thinking but it made sense.
There is 12 seconds left. Just snap it to the QB and have him jog out the back of the end zone. That would leave about 5 seconds and you would be kicking off from the 20 yard line. That gives Atlanta no chance except to return the kick.
Instead, the Falcons had the opportunity to block a punt, return a punt, and throw a Hail Mary.

Thought the same thing. If they got stuffed on 3rd down, I think he would have done it. That 10 gave them enough room to kick.
I think the danger was the punter falling down while back running a few yards. If they gained no yards on the prior play he would have been on the back line, where he just needs to step out.
