Hello newbies. I am new to the SBR Forums, but I am not new to sports betting.

Here I will offer some tips.

I started making all my money when I realized that you DON'T have to bet every night. Some nights the lines or games just are not good. It's all about the long term. Think of it like a marathon. You can't win it in hour but your sure can lose it by pushing yourself.

Also, increase your sample size. I used to stick to hockey, but I educated myself in all major sports. Now I have about 25+ games a night to bet on. The key is to only bet on games your very confident in. I usually take a game from the NBA, 2 from the NHL, and maybe an MLB spring training game. Some days I bet on 10 games, others 2, some none. It all depends on where you find the edge. Do your home work.

For MLB, check the pitchers. Check the teams records against each other. NHL check goalies, etc... Each sport has position strengths and weaknesses. Some team collapse when they miss key players. The whole point is to research and handicap hard. Pick the best games out of a whole sample size in all sports, and bet on those. I average 5 a night, and I usually win 3-4/5. I have been doing this for 2 years now and so far so good.

    So in summary:
-check for starters (pitchers, goalies) make sure it's not Joe backups night
-check travel schedule, did they play the night before in Dallas, and now are on the east coast 24 hours later? Was it snowing and they sat on the runways for 2 hours? Etc...
    -check injuries
    -check records vs each other
-have they just come off a big win? Are they pumped? Or lose 3 in a row? And down? What is their MENTAL state?
-LINE SHOP, have books at 10+ accounts, find the best line
-Try to book your bet asap, the lines usually change, and if you find a line you know will go down, lock it up before it does, makes a big difference in the long run
-HAVE FUN, I always play 2x parlays a day, one for $50, and one for $5. $50 on 3 way, $5 on 12 way. This is my crack. It's nice knowing you can always hit that long shot. Know that it's just for fun. I don't drink much so that's my beer money. Just don't fool yourself into thinking parlays will keep you running.
-straight individual flat bets are the way to go, pick your spots and bet 2% of your roll that day.
-check your stats once a week, not daily, as others have said
-BR Management, have a separate roll for betting, and a fund for bills, food, etc.. DON'T USE YOUR BILL FUND for gambling.
-If you deplete you BR, get a job like Mike McD and drive trucks till you can get some more scratch and fund a bankroll for gambling.
-CHECK your emotions at the door. If you lose, it's part of the game. That's the difference between a gambler and a PROFESSIONAL gambler
-Don't watch the scoreboard. Once the bet is made there is no point putting yourself thru all those swings. I love the Maple Leafs and I just don't bet on them. Even if it's EV. I keep that game gamble free so i can enjoy it. Enjoy your night, don't torture yourself

NOW...finally, the most important thing....more important than money....it's called TIME INVESTMENT

I spend 2 hours doing my research, picks, etc.. then I am DONE. I take advantage of the fact I have a lot of free time. I work out. I watch movies, I have fun! I PLAY sports. I have sex with my girlfriend. I enjoy LIFE! Treat is as a job. Treat it with respect. There is nothing better then waking up at 8AM, taking a leak, and going RIGHT BACK TO BED. I think about all those suckers on the highway stuck in traffic. Then I close my eyes and sleep in. DISCIPLINE. BE SMART, and you WILL SUCCEED!!! GOOD LUCK!
