I use the 2%.
Lecterature raccomand to not go over 5% but for me 5% is very dangerous.

My friend, you are going to your local town's fair. Your mon and pop gave you a fresh $10 dollar bill to indulge yourself. Lot's of rides you want to try....how do you spend your money? Most rides are half a dollar but one or two rides are $2.50 or maybe even $3.00 from your bankroll of $10.00. Are those rides worth the 5 or 6 good rides you will forgit by blowing your ten bucks.
Kinda of silly maybe for some.......but to many who have lost their ass at gambling it is not silly.
If your $10 bucks with the less expensive rides gives you four hours of enjoyment verse the hotdog rides giving you 20 minutes and then you go home because you are broke....get the view my friend.
Unit betting came about by XXXXXXX services selling picks. If it's a 5 unit, the suckers will buy it versus a regular bet. Whores to say the least.
Now, every novice and won't-a-be has a multi-unit play. Goddamn losers.

Ignore him bud.
To answer your question, 1% of my bankroll is a unit. Some posters may consider 5% of their bankroll a unit. It's really up to you.

1% would be my advice as well. Treat it like an investment, one that you are looking to manage for a very long time.....

As you are just starting out, use 1% of your br as a unit.
Welcome and good luck!
