On Totals

[newbie_help]

I am new at betting. I want to learn the game of totals. I am playing a little but I want to learn and improve. What info in match ups and reports etc from NBA, NCAABB, NHL do you look at in playing totals? Take it easy on the language and be as detailed a possible so I can understand. Maybe direct me to some good links.
