Why is Pitt laying 8.5 points tomorrow vs. Providence?

I mean, really, how can you lay 8.5 points with a team that has completely fallen apart, cannot shoot their way out of a paper bag, and is currently riding an 8 game losing streak and an 0-7 Big East record?

Is Vegas slow to catch on to the fact that Pitt sucks balls this year? What's up with this spread? I know Providence is pretty bad, but that's just it....a matchup of two bad teams here. Line should be Pitt in the -3 to -4 range, indicating a pick'em on a neutral court.

No, but neither has Pitt. Don't let the name or their preseason ranking fool you, this team is battling DePaul & Providence for the dregs of the conference. I follow this team and they are lost right now.

I probably won't play this game because I generally avoid matchups between two bad teams, but if you were going to play this game I don't see how you can do anything other than take the points. IMO

Sorry if it sounded like I was implying you didn't, I was referring more to the casual bettor who is basing their opinion of Pitt on their 10 straight tournament appearances...I feel that has to play in to this line.

When Providence plays at DePaul, DePaul won't be favored by 8.5; even though Pitt & DePaul are on pretty equal ground at this point.

Just take note that ECU usually plays UP to there competition and ECU also has a good home court advantage because of the enthusiastic fans.

I've been to home games when we beat top teams although we had done terrible all year long...

Don't ever think Vegas is slow, as that's what they'd like you to think. No one knows more than Vegas, and they watch and want every cent. Just remember, the line is about attracting even action on both sides, and not about what they actually think is going to happen. This is where the sharps make a living, by finding lines of value. Vegas knows folks will naturally be inclined to bet Pitt at home who is in badly need of a win. However, if they made the line -4 where maybe it should open, they'd get flooded with action on Pitt. Thus, they figure make it 10, which inevitably gets some folks off Pitt. Kind of like many liking Iowa ST at Texas yesterday. More folks going to bet TX at home, so Vegas gave Iowa more points then they needed, solely to even the sides. Sharps took those points and won.
