Actually no, believe it or not I practice what I 'preach'.

Regardless of what methods you use, the one thing I would encourage everyone to do is to try to derive their own line/odds without even looking at the spread.

Put simply, if you cannot come up with a number which is within one point of what the books are offering 80-85% of the time, you are doing something wrong and it is very unlikely that you are part of the 5% that Sam refers to above. Real edges, are hard to come by these days in major sports. If your numbers consistently/significantly differ from those offered by the books you either a) are a genius and have found the 'holy grail' or b) might as well be throwing darts.

Oh I know I can give a zillion examples where I have won doing that and lost doing that. Like 8 years ago when The devil rays were terrible they won like 6 in row. I started betting against them 50 100 200 ect. I stopped after they won 12 in a row. They won 13 before they lost. I was buried! I would only do a unit then another. Vegas can't let people win fading them all season. I have gone against them every game since that rigged Louville cover. So it's time to go the other way! It's been like 7 or so wins going against them.

Yup..like I said, when Lang was on it, I knew it was over. Kentucky hasn't covered all year, I have taken and lost with them several times, the first time I bet against them, Lang goes the same way and I lose. Still won for the night though. I hedged at halftime of that game and took Kentucky -5.5..which they covered easily.
