Is there ever value in buying points in CBB?
I'm just curious. I don't claim to be sharp, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but is there ever really value in buying points in CBB?

You either like the play on the spread, or you don't. There are no statistically significant key numbers in college basketball worth buying off of or on to. It seems like, if you need to buy points to feel comfortable playing a team, you probably shouldn't be playing them in the first place. CBB spreads are the softest of the major college & pro sports. Double digit dogs win outright all the time, as well as single digit favs winning by 30+....most of the time, these games aren't coming in close enough to the spread for buying points to have made any difference.

    What am I missing here?

Highly agree. Pts in football are exponentially more valuable.

      First off I bet @ -105 so when I buy .5 it's "only" -115 & not -120. I don't recommend buying .5 -120 but .5 -115 makes you consider it more often.

I think points are more important in basketball than football. In football a fluke play can be a 14 point swing throwing the line completely out of whack. In basketball it seems the games are always teetering right around the # & I'm always wishing I had an x-tra half of point or point w/ a minute or so to play. I will generally buy a half of point when I miss out on a move & the spread is small & only to get it to a whole number.
If the line is 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 I will occasionally buy it to the whole number. Not always but occasionally. The bigger the spread the less likely the game comes right down to that number but in the smaller spread games I swear it's almost always right around the number late in the game. I have pushed (instead of losing) about 6 or 7 games this yr because I bought the hook. I just look @ it as if I'm putting that $$ that I "should have lost" but pushed instead back into play & getting an xtra .5 on small spread games....which is huge alot of times. This is the first yr that I have ever experimenting buying points but i must admit I am way ahead right now.

If you can get -115 I would recommend buying .5 on some small spread games. If you can only get -120 I would say rarely or even never buy sh#t!!
