Futures Discussion: VCU +450 to Cut Down the Nets in Houston
I would like to start a good discussion about this. The cliche's I have heard this March are "How can you bet against Butler?" or "How can you bet against Uconn when they are on a streak?" The answer is you can't! The problem is these teams are all on a streak.
    • Kentucy's last loss came on Feb 23. against Arkansas 77-76 OT. 10 Game winning streak - started prior to SEC Tourn.
    • UConn's last loss came on Mar. 5 againt ND 70-67. 9 Game winning streak - started Big East Tourn.
    • Butler's last loss came on Feb. 3 against Youngstown St 62-60. 13 Game winning streak.
    • VCU's last loss came on Mar. 7 against ODU in the CAA Conference Championship 70-65. 5 Game winning streak.

VCU's streak is the smallest but they have been so hot. The question is can they continue to play with such great intensity? I honestly think they can; mainly due to the fact that no one has given them a chance and thats what motivates them. They also have a great young coach who obviously knows how to motivate this team and he has proven able to draw up great plays which his team executes almost flawlessly.

However, the other part of me seems to think that First Four to Final Four is a great story but thats where it ends and it justifies the change in the Tournament this year. Yea it would be the best story ever if these young men went all the way and won the Title, let alone just making it to Houston. VCU just knocked off the last #1 seed Kansas. I'm a firm believer that teams peak and then come back down w a loss. Only one team of the 4 can make it the rest of the way without a loss. The question then becomes well who has peaked and who is going to go all the way? I can certainly see VCU having peaked with that "enormous upset".

Another point to consider with the "enormous upset" is that the VCU team doesn't see it as an upset. They believe that they can win any game against anybody. They believe in themselves, in the team, and in their coach.

One more interesting fact I heard on the radio earlier is this: VCU has beaten a team from the Pac-10, Big East, Big Ten, ACC, and the Big 12. Of course if they beat Butler it will add the Horizon leauge but if Kentucky can beat UConn (which I like KY to win that game) they will have a chance to beat an SEC team. It just makes the VCU story even juicier and would make them the greatest Cinderella story of all time!

None the less, I think VCU can win it all and I see some enormous value in them at +450. These are the same odd's Ohio St had before the tournament started and I threw a few units on that, why not now but on VCU?

of the 4 teams, VCU is the only one who can't win if their shots aren't falling. They've been so hot from 3, I don't see how they sustain it for 1 or 2 more games, especially against these 3 defensive teams.

It could happen, but I wouldn't put my money on it.

I don't think +450 is good value at all. The way Kentucky has been playing defense, it's hard for me not to place a small wager on them winning it all.
