I was doing some research on the last two tournaments...
In 2010, the conference tournament winners, seeded 12 or better went 10-2-1 ATS. Covers by the MVC, Horizon, MWC, WAC and CAA champions. Considered to be some of the stronger mid majors. Even Houston, a 13 seed, C-USAs champ covered as well, but I didnt include that into the 10-2.
In 2009, the same criteria, teams went 8-5-1 ATS.
Grand total: 18-7. 72% winning percentage.
Teams falling into this category this year: Duke, Ohio State, Kansas, San Diego State, UCONN, Kentucky, Washington, Butler, Old Dominion, Gonzaga, Memphis, Utah State and Richmond.
And not to look too far ahead but in the round of 32, in games in which the spead was +/- 3 or more... essentially a game not a PK type of matchup...
2010: Chalk went 9-4 ATS
2009: Chalk went 9-3 ATS
Total of 18-7 as well, another 72% clip.
I am not that big of trends person, but I feel these are definitely relevant. Feel free to share and post yours as well.
